The Home Team

Spotify's algorithm was working overtime when it served me The Home Team about two weeks ago. They're funky, poppy, yet have a distorted guitar sound. If I were to describe them, it'd be a mix between Dance Gavin Dance without the high-pitched vocals, slight dashes of Panic! at the Disco, elements of Polyphia, and their own flair. At the very least, it's upbeat and energetic.

A bit on the tacky side but I recently discovered a German artist called Ikkimel - she does really fun hyper pop kinda stuff!

(resent this as a submission - hope that is ok!)

Make it a submission instead of a reply! Never hurts to throw your hat in the ring no matter how tacky or cheesy you may think it is <3

Hey Stella, thanks for the submission! We've granted it on this occasion (Ikkimel is fun!) but please check the instructions next time - we were looking for links to the artists' songs with each submission.

Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches struck out with a solo act towards the end of 2023 and I just learned about it a few weeks ago. She's got a small handful of songs out as singles now and it's very different from Chvrches. Her range of style and sound is impressive. The most recent single 'Change Shapes' has a great sound and a fun video. I'm very excited to see what type of full album she puts together.

I recently found a DJ artist called Amber Bros through word of mouth from a friend of mine. She's 21 and already performed on the biggest dance stages in the world including Tomorrowland. To achieve what she's done at her age is insane. Here's a link to one of her sets!

While the man behind Alpine Universe has been making music for a long time, I only discovered him a little while ago. For all the music he's created so far, somehow his YouTube channel only has 15k subscribers.

During the cold winter months, I discovered his song One Winter Night and the vibe just fitted so well, so I've been listening to that one a bunch!

So I had on as normal, Kordhell, in the car on the school run, which normally takes like 20-25 minutes driving one way and this song came on, my 9yr old holds my phone and skips the ads or watches them, depending on his mood and this song came on.

The 88's!

I've been rewatching Community and finally decided to check out the intro music - and then I realised I've heard their songs in a ton more films and TV, and have been enjoying the wider catalogue.

So whilst I've heard them a ton in the past during the intros, I had no idea what else they got up to, and they are just great!

My new favourite is Amanda Achen who does the vocals for recent Final Fantasy soundtracks. She has a beautiful voice and I really like how humble, nice and funny person she is. There are many stage or studio performances I could share to my favourite of her works, but I think this one from her own Youtube channel will better fit. She also plays games and streams, so check her out guys, she's one of us gamers :)

I recently discovered the captivating voice of Ashley Barrett. Many of you have likely heard her without even realizing it, as she has been a long-time collaborator with SuperGiant Games. Her voice graces the soundtracks of 'Bastion', 'Transistor', and 'Hades'. Check out this video to hear those familiar tunes:

Additionally, here are a few of her playlists available for free on Soundcloud:

I'm horrible at listening to new music and I think you'd find that almost all of what I currently listen to is the same as what I listened to when I was a kid and teenager but lately I've been getting better at listening to new music and I'm thoroughly happy with this development. Largely, a lot of that has come from having friends who enjoy similar music to me. One of my favourite recent discoveries came from a recommendation from a friend, they have a similar kind of sound to a band I already love (Alkaline Trio) so it was easy to just instantly fall in love and feel that sense of familiarity with them. I'm off to see Hot Water Music next week and I'm really excited for it.

KREAM

I have recently just found this DJ / Producer duo thanks to the trusty old YouTube suggestions! I listen to a lot of Electronic Dance / House Music when doing work so its always interesting to see what YouTube throws up when one of my go to sets / songs is done and recently it had been suggestion Kream, who I later found out are 2 brothers from Norway!

This music is fantastic background music (for me anyways!) when your sitting doing some work getting in the zone as its not too heavy and not every song has vocals, also these special live sets they have done are in a fantastic location which are enjoyable to watch if you want it on in the background when socialising! This one i recommend is the first one YouTube sent my way and its an impressive mix of songs and visuals! Enjoy!

Nemo , Switzerland Eurovision entry. Putting aside that this is a Eurovision entry (which people look down on), I think the whole song and performance from Nemo is just really impressive. Never heard of them before. Music gets really good in the later part, but the thing that impresses me is the different song/vocal style in the different stages of the song and the story it tells through it. Is that rap followed up by Opera or something? Never heard the mix of style in one song before.
