Last year, over in JAVG, we asked you to bring Charles Dickens's Christmas Carol into the world of gaming. This year, we're bringing our holiday writing contest into JABC, where it belongs, and taking the bumpers off: it's a free-form flash-fan fiction festival!
Ahem. We'd like you to share a piece of creative writing that's suited to, inspired by, or otherwise themed around the winter. That's it. It can be Christmassy and wholesome, or wintry and snowy, or, really, anything else as long as its connection to the time of year is clear. Feel free to include images, and note there's a minimum word count of 500, but please don't exceed 1,500 words; if your story is much longer than that, it may be disqualified regardless of quality.
If that sounds too short, remember our flash-fiction writing advice: Often, aspiring authors of flash fiction fall down by trying to write an entire story, complete with beginning, middle, and end. Flash fiction doesn't need to do that, and is usually better when it doesn't. You can leave questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved, and readers wanting more. Sometimes, it can even be a single scene!
Important note: this is a time-limited, podium-finish reward that will only close and its submissions be judged on Tuesday, January 7.
