Absolute crap, Honey is well known and if this was even the tiniest bit true, it would be everywhere, all over social media with massive influences publicly severing ties with them. All this is, is influencers demanding more money from them and getting told to do one, as he said "this video series is my opinion" i.e I'm full of S***
To be fair I don't get a lot of products unless I research them and the market extensively
Ray-Con ear phones are also trash
Never heard of it but a quick read & it’s fairly obvious how it works and the trade off. If you market affiliate links yourself then you get a cut of that sale, if you market honey then you get a small cut of the affiliate earnings via any sales using honey discount codes that user makes whether you made a video about that specific product or shop that they buy/use. If someone uses honey after they click through your original link, the yeah they override the original link.
It’s a choice of direct marketing specific products or just market one third party product and taking a cut of every use of that.
A lot of influencers are not following the USA or UK rules about affiliate link disclosure & that their videos are basically advertorials. This is more shady than this issue in my mind.
Wow, I'm really shocked at the responses here from content creators.
You are all ok with a multi billion dollar company inserting there tracking links (after doing nothing) in content creators of all sizes affiliate links (right from small creators who will make a few bucks up to your favourite big creators) and taking income away from them?
So you would all rather Honey gets all the affiliate revenue than the content creator who's video or stream you have just watched then decided to buy via their link to support them?
I dont, i know when I buy via links under someones review video for example I want them to get supported as i know its a small way i can support my favourite creators or a creator who has done a good job in their video telling me what i want to know about the product for example. Honey should get nothing, even if they provide you with promo or discount codes they could still do this (even though as the video displays there are better ones to be found by looking for yourself) and allow the content creator to get compensated.
And I have skin in the game, as a small content creator, i need to layer income streams to make ends meet, now if honey vacuumed up all the affiliate links i have i would notice that as i regularly refer to products i buy with my own money or if i am sent products which are good enough to be mentioned in a video. This looks like it is just another example of big business being shady and thinking they can get away with anything which in turn is making it more difficult to be a full time creator.
I am pro anything which helps creators of all sizes make income doing what they are passionate about, which is a big reason I got involved in (& support) Just About before it even launched by emailing the Founder to ask to get involved as I see it being another great example of this and as content creators I would have thought you would be too.
Thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.
