There's less than a week to go until the biggest annual awards show in video games: The Game Awards 2023! Besides dozens of plaudits to recognise excellence across every aspect of game production, The Game Awards is always a major platform for new game announcements; the 2024 and even 2025 release calendar will no doubt feel a lot more solid by the end of this year's show.
It's an important beat for media, in other words, including content creators. Any creator that covers industry news in any capacity will want to do something around this year's show, and so our question is: what's the best way to cover a live event?
If you've tackled this before, how do you do it? If you've seen others take an approach that works, what's their secret? There's nothing wrong with a standard livestream plus reaction and commentary, but is there a way to do this better than others? How about follow-up - what do you do with the footage? What about social media? How else can you stand out and offer value when covering live shows like TGA, Gamescom, and others?
