I was expecting Past Lives to win one of its two nominations, but I haven't seen Anatomy of a Fall so I can't comment on whether it deserved to win Best Original Screenplay or not. I'm also surprised to see the extent to which Oppenheimer swept the awards season. To me, the film was good but not great, and there were some really strong contenders this year. Of the films I saw on the Best Picture list, it's probably the one I'd put at the bottom. Personally I would have liked to have seen Poor Things or The Holdovers win best picture, but I'm glad they at least got awards for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively.
I really loved Oppenheimer. It left me in a stunned silence staring at a blank screen. I haven't watched The Holdovers yet, but I finally watched Poor Things this weekend, and wow... what a film! Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe were brilliant, the visuals were stunning, and the soundtrack was excellent.
I did enjoy Oppenheimer, and I thought aspects of it were really great. The test scene in particular was unreal. I just felt like after that moment, the film sort of slowly petered out and I found it a bit hard to stay invested, and I'm not sure how much I enjoyed the fragmented structure, which seemed to exist just for the sake of it.
I would definitely recommend The Holdovers! They worked hard to give it the aesthetic of a 70s coming of age movie and I think the result is something that feels really timeless. It's not the most original film in the world but the characters are so easy to get behind and it feels super sincere and authentic.
Frankly I don’t care about the Oscars EXCEPT to watch Kimmel trash Trump. That was my jam
I was really happy that zone of interest won best international feature and sound! Kinda sad Emily Blunt didn't win best supporting actress though :( I haven't had chance to see the holdovers yet though and people have said Da'Vine Joy Randolph is really good in it :) I'm sure it was a more than deserved win
Oppenheimer - Well deserved, incredible, thoughtful, amazing
This live was just epic.
I only watched bits but the wife was watching it behind me
I can't find the acceptance speech for it, so not sure if it was taken out of context, but read that Ludwig Goransson thanked his parents for giving him musical instruments instead of video games and my Xitter timeline just exploded over that, all my classical music trained gamer friends are calling him out.
Would be good if someone who watched the show could confirm if it truly was said like that or just taken out of context. Everyone can love whatever kind of music they prefer, or play the instrument of their choice but to bring down another industry famous of its classical music was definitely not a professional move.
