Hi folks
We've heard some of you saying that it'd be nice to get to know the Just About team a little better, so we thought we'd start a weekly Meet the Team post to help with that.
These will be short weekly introductions to each of our team members, and we'll sprinkle in a few other bits along the way to spice things up.
Kicking us off this week is Richard Scott-Jones, aka RSJ.
What is your role at Just About?
I'm the Community Content Lead, which means I'm responsible for the cool things you get to read, watch, or see on the platform, and for figuring out how to give you more of what you want. I work with our content managers to come up with bounties that our members will enjoy - though ultimately we'll hand this role over to the members themselves - and also help to edit, and occasionally produce, our curated content.
Why did you join JA, and where did you work before?
I was in the games media at PCGamesN, starting as a staff writer and winding up as editor-in-chief. I got a pretty good sense of the kinds of stories our readers enjoyed, and spent a lot of time in gaming communities reporting on the good, bad, and bizarre not only of what they do, but what gets done to them.
I love passion - reading fans nerding out about topics of which I knew nothing were some of the real pleasures of my journo career - and creating a positive, healthy space for fans to do that is near to my heart. It's such a simple thing to say, but there are really difficult challenges at every level, from the coalface of community management to the higher realms of community design. I'm not aware of any company that's shown the same understanding of these, and the same purity of intent, that Just About has. I jumped at the chance to get involved.
Tell us something you enjoy doing in your downtime
I enjoy a peated whisky or three with my fiancée on Friday nights - Ardbeg Uigedail or Douglas Laing's Big Peat are our favourites, since you ask - a ritual that our cat Henry, the world's cutest but neediest British shorthair, can be depended on to try and disrupt. I've been writing creatively since my mid-teens but progress is erratic as I do try to keep up with new game releases. Officially my favourite game is Dark Souls, but Baldur's Gate 3 is seriously challenging that!
That's it! There's your quick peek into the life of Just About's Community Content Lead.
If you have any questions for Rich you can ask them below, and same goes for any questions you'd like to see included in future Meet the Team Tuesdays.
Next week you'll be hearing from me, Boomer (Community Manager), so come at me with your questions!
