It’s hard to say. I don’t think impressions are inherently offensive, but if the topic of what’s being said is a stereotype, you’ve probably got a problem. Like, doing an Irish accent for whatever character voice is fine, but doing an Irish accent and talking about how much you love potatoes and whiskey likely isn’t.

yeah. I get what you mean. Um, Let me rephrase that. I mean like a badly done accents not stereotyping. When doing unvoiced dialogues to give characters some depth or difference 😁

The short answer is no, it's not offensive, it's not stereotyping people, it's just an impression, but in this day and age, everything is offensive to someone, but it's like jokes, comedians tell jokes and a group will say "that's offensive" - No, it's not offensive, you found it offensive, but that doesn't mean others will, people just become offended and then say "that's offensive".

it's all down to personal interpretation of things. For instance, I love Jimmy Carr and his dark humour, However, I find some of Matt Rife's material offensive, but that is my personal view and should not be confused with others' views.

If you follow what I'm saying here.

I would personally avoid trying to copy another areas accent in this day and age. Things are very easily taken out of context or you can come off as offensive to some people even with the best intentions. I don't think it's worth the risk of upset.

yeah I think I kinda get what you guys are saying. I mean it is a shame though. To quote Jack Sparrow. “The world is still the same, there is just less in it” I’m a simple guy and straight forward. I think it’s ok to have an Asian as the yellow ranger and a black person as the black ranger. But I know in today’s world that might be a problem. I understand to a point. But at times it’s just tiring 😀

It's great that you want to add character voices to your creations!

Using different styles and voices for characters can definitely enhance their depth. However, it's important to be mindful of potentially offensive stereotypes. For example, portraying a cowboy with a stereotypical Texan accent "Howdy" might be too simplistic and could unintentionally perpetuate stereotypes. Instead, try mixing and matching styles and voices to create unique and diverse characters. This way, you can add depth and authenticity without relying on clichés or caricatures. Keep experimenting and have fun with it!

I might just keep it simple for now until I’m a bit more confident with my impressions. It’s a thin line to walk and it’s risk vs reward. Could go very well or very bad. I will keep that in mind 😃
