Community is about connecting people, and sometimes we still like to do that in real life. That’s why we’re thrilled to open the doors to our latest community - our tenth! - in partnership with the organisers of the UK’s best gaming event: Just About WASD.
But how will we apply our online platform to the real world? Read on.
Who WASD and why WASD?
Run by the people behind EGX and Rezzed - the biggest and best-loved shows in the British games industry - WASD launched in 2022. It did so successfully despite being the first games event in the UK since the COVID lockdowns. Then it doubled its attendance in 2023.
It’s safe to say the organisers know their business.
With their support, Just About will be the official online home for WASD fans. Online communities can extend and enhance real-world events; think of the Facebook page for your favourite music festival. Even when it’s not happening, fans are there, sharing memories of past shows, wondering who’ll be playing next year, and celebrating the togetherness you only feel when shared interests are assumed and on display.
During the show itself, of course, the community goes into overdrive. How good were that band? Look at this photo of my friend being silly! Isn’t British weather reliable?
All of that can happen with WASD, and Just About’s special sauce means we can be the best place for it.
So WASD the plan?
We’ll have bounties for all the things fans love doing around events. Reminiscence. Speculation. Wishlisting. We’ll connect fans with those involved in the show through Q&A bounties sourcing community questions. And we’ll have fun, too, sharing and generating memes and fun moments from shows past.
But it’s during the event itself - April 25-27 in London, **get your tickets here** - that we’re really excited to see what we can do.
Imagine hot takes and micro-reviews for games on the floor.
We can ask ‘what’s the best game at WASD’ and lend momentum to indies struggling to get seen.
Perhaps a bounty to interview a dev and break a news story?
Or a photo scavenger hunt, so fans on the ground can share the experience with those who can’t make it?
There are endless possibilities, all unique to the synthesis of Just About and WASD. Some people - those who believe in metaverses - see the digital spaces of the future as eroding real ones. Speaking as the creators of a digital space of the future, we beg to differ. Just About will dovetail elegantly with WASD, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with.
