Here's my entry for this outfit design!
I first thought about doing something related to Henry Selick's movies, as Lost in Random captures so well the aesthetic of his stop motions. But looking behind the style, I saw that the themes are more about board and chance games. And what board game encapsulates best the ruthlessness of random and the unfairness of rules? Monopoly!
So I went for a revisit of Uncle Pennybag. The mask was a lot of fun to make, the golden mustache adds different textures and reveal the greed usually hidden behind the jovial smile of Pennybag. I chose to change the blazer into a tailcoat to better fit with the back slot of the outfit and create a flowy element that the initial design lacks.
Finally, for Fortune's design, I hesitate with one the many pawns of monopoly. But it was awkward to fit in the constrain of "must be able to toss Fortune like a real dice". So I went back to the classic, the red with white dot dice, with a heavy layer of scratches that shows how old and well used those dices can be.
It was a fun challenge! having to create something that fits in the universe of the game made me look at it with a new eye, and appreciate the designs even more. Good job to the artists and the devs, it's a great world they created!
