The American Dream - Green Day

The Death Of Slim Shady - Eminem

Leo Metal Vol 64 - Leo Morichinolli

Anecdotes vol 1 - Yunalesca

Inevitable Incredible - Stereophonics

These are all good album in my opinion which i have really enjoyed listening to again and again. Looking forward to whatever new music is out this year as well. I love alot of different genres. Metal, EDM, country

Metal is usually what i have on for most of the day whilst i potter about.

Im a little picky tbh with edm i like some of the older EDM stuff kinda like trance but a bit more lively if that makes sense

Green day have always been a MASSIVE favourite of mine when i was growing up and they will always be one of my favourite bands

The Death Of Slim Shady was a great album when it dropped everyone was talking about it. I really like the wayEminem talks about things with the lyrics he used. Absolute Genius Rappr

Leos albums are just all round great turning modern pop songs into something a bit more what id listen to as well

Yunalescas new album what pretty good this year. They are a new band to me i only started listening to them in 2022

Sterophonics again massive love for them and all their albums always been a fan of theirs since day one

This year I started an Album of the Week club with some friends to expand my horizon, here's some of my favorites, in no order.

Let's Start Here by Lil YachtyNot typically an artist I would listen to, even avoided, but this album was a beautiful mix of trippy vibes and vocals that re-opened my eyes to his collection.

Trilogy by The Weekday - One of my favorite artists, but I got to do an in-depth dive in this extension collection of music. Part I was my personal favorite through and through with the melancholic vibes it gave.

1999 by Joey Bada$$ - Never listened to Joey before, and didn't even know he had a full album outside of DEVASTATED, but this was a classic 90s vibe like the name implies that I really enjoyed.

Alone At Prom by Tory Lanez - I'm gonna get canceled for this one but this is a top R&B album I've ever listened to and potentially my favorite of the year.

WE DON'T TRUST YOU by Future and Metro Boomin - I was all in on the Kendrick and Drake beef this year #TeamKendrick, and this is the album that really kicked it off.

DU

Here’s my selection of the top five albums of 2024:

Cowboy Carter" - Beyoncé
Beyoncé takes a bold step into country music, blending traditional and pop influences. The album has been widely praised for its originality and depth.

"Brat" - Charli XCX
An innovative collection of modern club and pop hits that showcase Charli XCX's continuous evolution and creativity.

"Hit Me Hard and Soft" - Billie Eilish
A double album that transitions between energetic tracks and darker atmospheres, highlighting Billie Eilish's versatility as an artist.

"GNX" - Kendrick Lamar
A powerful project filled with social commentary and sharp lyricism, further cementing Kendrick Lamar as one of rap's most compelling voices.

"The Tortured Poets Department" - Taylor Swift
An album that delves into emotions through poetic and tragic storytelling, once again proving Taylor Swift's skill in crafting evocative narratives.

These albums remind me why music is such a powerful medium it’s not just about entertainment but about exploring emotions, breaking boundaries, and telling stories that resonate across cultures and time. In 2024, these artists not only pushed their own limits but also redefined what music can mean to listeners everywhere. For me, each album stands as a reflection of creativity and courage, and I can’t wait to see how they continue to inspire the music world in the years to come.

5). Pain – I Am

The long-awaited album from Pain feels like a journey back to the industrial roots that defined well... me? With its classic soundscape and innovative edge, I Am proves that Pain remains a master of the genre.

4). Opeth – The Last Will and Testament

As always, Opeth delivers a masterpiece. This album revealed the band's unmatched ability to weave bright melodies with an array of instruments, creating kinda ethereal and immersive aura. Each track feels like an opus, blending progressive and symphonic elements.

3). Bring Me the Horizon – Post Human: Nex Gen

BMTH continues their transformative evolution, crafting a seamless mix of genres and sounds. Post Human: Nex Gen is an exploration of heavy riffs, electronic layers, and haunting vocals, pushing boundaries in every sense.

2). Poppy – Negative Spaces

A raw and emotional dive into rage and pain, Poppy’s Negative Spaces lays bare the intensity of human emotion. Every track bursts with unfiltered energy, balancing aggression with vulnerability in a way that feels oddly right.

1). Linkin Park – From Zero

From Zero revisits their iconic sound while embracing modern influences. With powerful vocals and unforgettable melodies, the album resonates deeply, and the recent Arcane animation collaboration has only added to its appeal. It’s my top 1.

Here are my top 5 albums of 2024, listed in this particular order:

  1. Yunchan Lim – Chopin Etudes
Lim's mastery and expressive interpretation of Chopin’s Etudes made me reevaluate the composer, who hadn’t been a favorite of mine before.

  2. Emanuel Ax, Leonidas Kavakos, and Yo-Yo Ma – Beethoven for Three: Symphony No. 4 and Op. 97 'Archduke'
An exceptional arrangement of Beethoven’s 4th Symphony (quite rare), beautifully performed by this fantastic trio.

Now, transitioning to more modern albums

  1. Gothminister – Pandemonium II: The Battle of the Underworlds
A dynamic blend of gothic metal and industrial elements. It brings back memories of my teenage playlist, but as if some of those artists had fused together.

  2. Gesaffelstein – Gamma
A powerful industrial-techno fusion. This album is ideal for energizing productive mornings.

  3. Clairo – Charm
Closing with a calming choice, this album is filled with 70s-inspired sounds. It resonates with my recent exploration of similar tones using a synthesizer.

Kethervir's avatar
  1. Pat Metheny - Moondeal

He is a great jazz fusion composer, considered one of the bbeest of the 1900, this album is very special because is maded with a special Baritone Nylon Guitar particulary tuned, and all the track is improvised with a "one take recordings" by this great master suggesting you a very personal approach to composition.

  2. Blaze Bayley - Circle of Stone

Another of great work of this Metal singer, the particularity of Blaze is the depth of meaning of the lirics, very psicological and never politics or religious. He founded a unique sub genere called Silicon Messiah and he also was the ssinger of Iron Maiden and Powerwolf.

  3. Primus, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle - Sessanta E.P.P.P.

This is a 3 songs EP. each song is by one of the 3 great group of the collaboration. This artists have a very special Sperimental approach to the music. Easily you'll found sperimenting strange moods if you listen carefully. All of their work is uncommon and unique, you have to be listen carefully and not just superficially, iss a music that tell you something more, not just a song to listen randomly. Also Primus have one of the great bassist in hystory with his unique voice and vocal.

  4. Judas Priest - Invincible Shield

What to say about one of the most historic bands in the metal world? In better shape than ever, it seems that time has never passed for them, making them truly invincible, more than a new album, it seems like a continuation of the historic album Painkiller of the '90, listening to it anyhow it doesn't seem like 35 years have passed.. always genuine, unique, from incredibly technical, clean and veenuous guitar solos, to Rob's singing, everything refers to their sound that has remained intact and always fresh through the decades. A true masters of classic Metal.

  5. Deicide - Banished by Sin

What i have to say... is Deicide..... even more technical, with a great and clean sonud. A truly masterpiece, as always. Certanly is not a new band, but in time they have not lost their roots and now is better than ever.

F

Here are my top 5 albums by famous singers, explained from my personal and subjective point of view. These are choices related not only to the quality of the music, but also to how these albums made me feel and what they represent to me.

1. "25" – Adele

For me, this album is number one because it is an emotional masterpiece. Each track seems to tell a story that could belong to anyone. Adele manages to capture universal feelings like nostalgia, lost love and hope in such an intimate way that it seems like she is singing just for you. Her voice is powerful yet vulnerable, and songs like Hello and When We Were Young are authentic punches in the emotional gut.

2. "DAMN." – Kendrick Lamar

This album is a raw and powerful poem. Kendrick skillfully mixes personal insight, social commentary and storytelling, creating a work that needs to be listened to multiple times to catch all the nuances. Every song, from HUMBLE. to DNA., is a statement of intent. For me, it's special because it's not just music, but a journey that challenges you to think more deeply about society and yourself.

3. "Folklore" – Taylor Swift

Folklore is like a secret diary shared with the world. Taylor Swift completely reinvents herself, abandoning mainstream pop to explore indie-folk sounds. It's an introspective, melancholic album, full of stories that seem to come out of a book. Songs like Cardigan and Exile are masterpieces that manage to create a dreamy and nostalgic atmosphere. For me, it's like a warm blanket on a rainy day.

4. "The Dark Side of the Moon" – Pink Floyd

I couldn't not include a timeless classic. This album is a psychedelic journey through universal themes such as life, time and mortality. It's a work that goes beyond music: each song is connected, creating an immersive experience. For me, listening to it is like meditating; Songs like Time and Us and Them make me reflect on life in a way that few albums can.

5. "1989" – Taylor Swift

Yes, Taylor Swift appears twice, but 1989 is a breakthrough album for me. It was the moment she fully embraced pop, creating hits that have become generational anthems. Songs like Blank Space and Style are impossible not to love: they are catchy, catchy, but with clever lyrics. This album makes me feel energetic and nostalgic at the same time, a perfect mix.

Why this ranking?

These albums represent different moments in my life and different moods. There is a balance between introspection, energy and pure emotion. Each of them is special for how they made me feel and how they inspired me. It's not just music: it's a reflection of who I am.

1 - Songs of a Lost World - The Cure

A small but great album from an amazing band. The Cure brings again its acid rock that gives ate the same time calmness and chills while listen to their songs, and it't great to see such old bands active and producing songs until 2024! And for that this album is in the first place!

2 - Hit Me Hard and Soft - Billie Eilish

For me one of the greatest names in this decade Billie Eilish bring us her unique sound, that calm and "lazy" voice that cause a strong contrast with the lyrics that some times talks about mature and obscures themes. Songs like Skinny will pass a calm emotion with melancholy in a way that just her can do!

3 - Manning Fireworks - MJ Lenderman

First time I listen to MJ Lenderman and his song pleased me a lot, a calm and with touch of country in most of his song it is a calm album to relax on the weekend after a long and exhaust week of work and it pass exactly this vibe to me, so it's great because of it and the quality of the songs of course!

4 - The Last Will and Testament - Opeth

As fan of obscure songs the new album of Opeth would be a must here, with a Strong instrumental it kind make a hate grow inside (in a good way... I think) but their song make me feel more active and motivated like most metal songs, and this album has nothing to complain about!

5 - Girl with No Face - Allie X

This is another album from an artist that I've met this year and I can say there some songs I'm also addicted like Weird World, and one of the reasons that I love this album so much is the same as the Billie Eilish, this calm song with some obscure themes, made me think about a lot of things without a pressure of anything since the songs are calms, no so calm as Billie's but has some degree com calmness in them.

My Top Five Albums of 2024 and Why

2024 was an incredible year for music, with artists across genres delivering outstanding projects that resonated deeply with fans. Here are my top five albums of the year and why I chose them:

1. "Utopia 2.0" by Travis Scott

Genre: Rap
Travis Scott returned with the sequel to his critically acclaimed Utopia, and it was everything fans hoped for. The album explores futuristic sounds with deep introspection, blending psychedelic beats with his signature style. Tracks like "Neon Dreams" and "Gravity" showcase his evolution as an artist while maintaining the energy that makes his music unforgettable.

2. "Renaissance: Act II" by Beyoncé

Genre: R&B/Pop
Beyoncé continued her Renaissance series with a bold, genre-defying album that paid homage to disco, house, and Afrobeat. Her empowering lyrics and impeccable production shone in tracks like "Golden Light" and "Frequencies." The album was not only a musical masterpiece but also a cultural moment, celebrating creativity and resilience.

3. "The Resurrection" by Kendrick Lamar

Genre: Rap
Kendrick Lamar once again proved why he’s one of the greatest lyricists of our time. The Resurrection delves into themes of personal growth, societal struggles, and hope. Songs like "Phoenix Rising" and "Silent Thunder" feature introspective storytelling layered over innovative beats, making this a standout rap album of the year.

4. "Endless Horizons" by Taylor Swift

Genre: Pop/Folk
Taylor Swift expanded her storytelling prowess with Endless Horizons, an album that seamlessly blended pop and folk elements. Tracks like "Stardust Road" and "Timeless Echoes" captured her ability to evoke nostalgia while addressing universal themes of love, loss, and renewal. The album’s poetic lyrics and emotional depth solidified her dominance in the industry.

5. "Euphoria Nights" by Dreamwave

Genre: Synthwave/Electronic
This debut album from Dreamwave became an unexpected favorite. Its lush synths and retro-futuristic soundscapes were mesmerizing. Tracks like "Starlight Reverie" and "Electric Glow" transported listeners to another world, making it a must-listen for fans of electronic music.

My list is going to be quite partial, but come on hahaha:

TOP 1: From Zero - Linkin Park: What a comeback... What a voice... What a right choice... I can't tell you how moved I was listening to every song on this album! The band marked a large part of my life and just as Chester's death made me cry a lot, listening to the new songs did too! I loved every second of it and will continue to listen to the new songs for a long time to come!

TOP 2: LOOM - Imagine Dragons: It's by far my favorite band (you can even check it out on Spotify Wrapped here on the site 😂), and even though it's not my favorite album of theirs, it was an album with several striking messages about depression and very pleasant melodies to listen to!

TOP 3: Short n' Sweet - Sabrina Carpenter: I think the awards she won were very well deserved, she's a singer who made her presence felt without asking for permission, and the album is full of very good songs, I listened to it several times this year!

TOP 4: Hit Me Hard and Soft - Billie Eilish: The song that made me want to listen to the whole album was undoubtedly BIRDS OF A FEATHER. Simply “WOW”, she has evolved a lot over the years, and this album is the greatest proof of that, simply incredible!

TOP 5: eternal sunshine - Ariana Grande: I've never been much of a fan, but I know when something is good, and this new album of hers is just great, I liked (a lot) practically all the songs, the melody is good, the choruses stick in the mind, great album!

And, that's it!

Looking at all the submissions, I feel a bit insecure, like I'm an amateur in the world of music 😅. Anyway, here are my top 5 albums of 2024 as a regular music listener, though I may lack some references.

  1. HOYO-MiX - INSIDE
I play Honkai Star Rail, and while playing the story, a song from this album played that made the storyline even more perfect.

  2. Reality Club - Reality Club Presents…
Although this album has been out since 2023, I think it’s still relevant, and I often listen to it in 2024.

  3. EVE - Kaikai Kitan / Ao no Waltz
I was watching an anime, and at that time, my social media FYP was flooded with this song, and it was really fun to listen to.

  4. Ado - Ado "Ready For My Show Playlist"
I’m always amazed when Ado sings, and every song has its own unique characteristic. As for her voice, I must say it's really beautiful.

  5. Imase - BONSAI
Chill vibe, perfect for keeping me company in my room so it doesn’t feel too lonely.

Thank You :)

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady: I've always been an Eminem fan, so anything he makes will probably always be on my list! The beats and lyrics are super catchy. I love how Eminem can both make you super immersed in the seriousness of the lyrics, while also sometimes make you laugh at something really funny.

Imagine Dragons - Loom: The voice is iconic and really sounds great. I think it's got a unique style that I really enjoy.

Linkin Park - From Zero: Also a long time fan of Linkin Park, the singing is phenomenal and the tunes are perfect to listen to when you want some loud and exciting music.

Helluva Boss Soundtrack: Really good songs with good lyrics and a great story behind it. I could sing along all day.

Beyoncé - Cowboy Carter: The songs are both relaxing, empowering and catchy, love the voice and the lyrics in this album.

mypets's avatar
  1. Beyoncé - Cowboy Carter: Everyone must agree that she's perfect! She always surprises and this time was no different. The production is impeccable, as well as the themes that explore Bey's personal stories, the connection with her origins and the importance of cultural heritage and female empowerment. Flawless!

  2. Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady: was one of the most striking for me. The depth it brings, right from the title, you know what's coming. The impactful lyrics and the mix of beats are the highlight, as well as the reflections it brings, as in “The Curtain Falls”. All this makes this album impeccable.

  3. Billie Eilish - Skinny: another one that just confirms what a phenomenon she is, always innovative and impactful. The sound is fantastic, as are the disarming lyrics, such as “Reflections in a Broken Mirror”... no words!

  4. Sabrina Carpenter - Short n' Sweet: This album shows her artistic evolution and musical maturity, it's great to see this happening. Although I'm not Gen z haha, I recognize how the artist has had a huge impact on many aspects, from the intimate lyrics to the incredible aesthetic, which despite the transformation, retains its essence.

  5. Imagine Dragons - Loom: as a fan, I couldn't fail to put it here. Perhaps it's not an album that attracts new listeners like some of the band's timeless songs. But we can't deny that they always please and that the songs always deliver excellent lyrics and melodies.

Here is my list from my wife and me, we have hard a long hard think about this bounty and came up with these five artists to enter, our reasons are many so we will add short answers to the names themselves.

  1. Billie Eilish - Hit Me Hard And Soft - Real Emotion in music

  2. Sabrina Carpenter - Short N Sweet - IRL to music, need we say more?

  3. Jessica Pratt - Here In The Pitch - Up and Up Music

  4. Nilufer Yanya - My Method Actor - Small but a great music artist

  5. Nala Sinephro - Just look it up, you won't be disappointed

Between the two of us, we think these we brought online are by far the best :) Music is often a personal thing and each album song for us, means something different, we share a family account so, we often overlap into each others music.

It is a beautiful and always welcome collection of musical demos of the most successful songs of this wonderful group from Birmingham (My favorite) in the sweet voice of the always remembered Trish Keenan and is always recommended try it

  • Paula cole > Lo

A long time ago Paula Cole released an album called Amen which is one of the best albums and can be considered an album without waste.

This new edition is just as good. All the songs are good and I recommend that you listen to it.

  • Aurora

    > What Happened To The Heart?

This incredible CD has gone almost unnoticed by the radar of music Lovers and on this occasion Aurora experiments with new rhythms, including Brazilian-style ballads.

Here is the selection of my top 5 albums for 2024:

Satianao - Doggerland SOS to Nowhere
This album also contains the title "Retter in der Not".
The proceeds from the single of this song go to "the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People" (DGzRS)

Die Fantastischen 4 - Long Player
As a long-time fan, I can really only recommend "Long Player"! Maybe not all age groups can cope with the sound, but that doesn't have to be the case. With this 11th studio album, Die Fantastischen Vier have done exactly what they do best: shot their sound and music into 2024! Die Fantas don't have to sound "modern", Die Fantastischen Vier sound like themselves!

Jan Delay - Forever Jan
A great double album with songs from Jan Delay's long career.
Many well-known hits re-recorded

Scooter - Open Your Mind and your Trousers
For all those who love Scooter, there is finally a return to the roots of the good Scooter sound, while also integrating the latest modern sounds.

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady
He's back. And this time he wants to put an end to "Slim Shady", that cheeky guy who commanded our respect and took our breath away some time ago. His new album harks back to old times, but here and there incorporates unusual styles. Many of them have been heard before, others not yet or only briefly. The repertoire is getting longer and longer, but the style remains the same.

Ooooh, very very good bounty!

I would say my top or 2024 is...

Luke Hemmings - Boy
Ariana Grande - Eternal Sunshine
Marianas Trench - Haven
All Time Low - The Forever Sessions
Wicked the Official Movie Soundtrack

Honestly, it's been a hard year for music, I found myself sticking to familiar voices.
Luke Hemmings is the lead singer of 5SOS, he previously released an EP that did amazing, so when he released BOY it was full of really strongly written music and you honestly can't deny the vocals he has, a very strong record which is why it was my number 1.

Ariana Grande - Eternal Sunshine. This was another great record, we saw the return of little Ari and a different tone when it came to this album, much more personal, and softer and we saw a different side to her voice. She had a great couple of lead singles from this that gave the album the push it needed - and seeing her perform it live on SNL was amazing!

Marianas Trench - Haven. I have been a fan of these guys for a very long time, each of their albums is a masterpiece. They returned from a break with a lead single that hit the wave of nostalgia for all the old fans, the album is impeccable and very strong. It feels like you are watching a movie the way it is all composed.

All Time Low - The Forever Sessions. Okay maybe I'm cheating with this but the band re-released some of their songs to "own" them, hearing these songs re-recorded with the cleaner and grown-up vocals adds a new feeling to those great songs.

Wicked - Cynthia and Ariana smashed it! theres nothing else to add!!!

My five favorite albums of 2024:

  1. Linkin Park - From zero

I didn't like the old songs simply because I didn't like them, I thought they were a bit boring (Please don't hate me haha), but this new album with the INCREDIBLE Emily Armstrong hasn't left my ears. I think it pleased the old fans because it didn't totally lose its essence and brought in a new audience, like me haha.

  2. Kendrick Lamar - GNX

Kendrick is still Kendrick, the greatest rapper alive. I'll be brief.

  3. Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady

Here we have Eminem killing off his alter ego from the past, many people didn't like it because it presented an old-fashioned humor, but for others it was simply the old Slim Shady making an appearance.

  4. Billie Eilish - Hit me Hard and Soft

Here we see innovation and at the same time the artist's comfort zone, everything an album needs. To please those who already like it and to please new people.

  5. Beyoncé - Cowboy Carter

I think this is almost unanimous in the tops I've seen during the year, it's not an artist I like, but I found it very captivating and I have to admit that it is very good, it would be unfair to take it out of the top.

DU

The best albums of 2024 in my opinion are those focused on themes of hope, love and faith. I like them because, despite the darkness that has enveloped this last year between wars, illness and sadness... these songs encourage us to look at the light.

The albums I have chosen are:

Tu mi risponderai - Jeremias Bodden, In equilibrio - Anìma, Cicatrici - Amanda, Alziamo la voce - Upper Room, Non mi fermo - PDG Worship

All the albums are in Italian and vary in genres, suitable for both younger and older audiences. They talk about current issues but with an eye on overcoming problems.A look at how to face each single battle, seeking the strength and faith that only God can give. You can adore, you can relax, you can dance with these 5 albums and especially the first one shows how a young artist can be, in technique, similar to the big ones.

TrialByStory's avatar

I had to do some double checking to remember what did and did not come out this year (Did you know Blind Guardian's "The God Machine" was 2022?) But here are my five favorite albums from this year, in order of release.

Hazbin Hotel (original soundtrack)

Depending on who you talk to, this particular adult animation series was either great, problematic, or a little Hit or Miss. Putting the show itself aside for a moment, I really liked the music. They brought in some strong talent for this and I'd say it paid off.

Voyage (The Longest Johns)

So remember how Sea Shanties (or at least a sea shanty) got popular for a second during the empty arena era? People have been performing and enjoying those songs both before those heady days and in the time since, The Longest Johns being one of the more prominent groups. This album featured original songs, historic shanties, and even a Creedence Clearwater Revival cover. It's a fun listen and honestly I'd say it's worth checking out even if you're really into shanties.

Rite Here Rite Now (Ghost)

Officially released as the soundtrack for Ghost's theatrical film (which expanded on the lore from their Youtube videos and finally gave us a conclusion to Cardinal Copia/Papa Emeritus IV's story a year after his final show), in practice it's a live album covering the last two nights of 2023 Re-Imperatour. The setlist has all the big songs you'd expect to see from Papa & the Nameless Ghouls, plus one song that played over the film's ending credits. I love live recordings, and this one slots easily into my library.

Yesterwynde (Nightwish)

FIrst off my sincere gratitude (and apologies) to the Just About user who mentioned this in a previous bounty; I cannot for the life of me remember your name, but without you I wouldn't have realized this had come out. Yesterwynde is a bit different of a sound compared to my go-to Nightwish album (2004's Once), but it was no less enjoyable. It definitely scratched my itch for new symphonic metal, and easily earned a place in my top 5.

From Zero (Linkin Park)

Like many, I wasn't sure how to feel about Linkin Park returning without Chester Bennington. And like many, I was pleasantly surprised. But after some early controversy about their choice(s) of vocalist, they stuck the landing. Much like with Nightwish, it's not exactly what I remember, but it is still excellent. It's good to see that arguably the most influential band from my younger days has still got it.

0ffworld's avatar

#1 // Linkin Park - From Zero

To be honest, I wasn't sure if they could do it. Reinventing one of the most popular rock bands in the world is no small feat - but they've done it and the music is amazing. From Zero turned out to be a beautiful, varied album I can listen to from beginning to end without skipping a song. I will be a lifelong fan. I'm so happy the name Linkin Park lives on. I honestly can't wait for what's next after they're done touring and had some time to recharge.

#2 // Solar Fake - Don't Push This Button!

I discovered this band at a low point in my life, shortly after the release of their previous album, Enjoy Dystopia. While Don't Push This Button! doesn't quite reach the same heights, it's still a beautiful dark synth-pop album. I've got the physical release of the special edition right behind me. Definitely a highlight of my year.

#3 // Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady

There is no way I'm skipping an album release of one of my top 3 hip-hop lyricists. Despite the fact that this is a concept album, Eminem's wordplay still shines as bright as ever on this album.

#4 // Tech N9ne Collabos - COSM (Class of Strange Music)

The Collabos albums have always brought together the best of what Strange Music has to offer. But the industry is shifting again, a lot of artists went out on their own. That didn't stop Tech's efforts of bringing current and former artists back for another collaboration project. I'm not sure if there will ever be another one, so this one's special to me.

#5 // Static-X - Project Regeneration Volume 2

The current members of Static-X have made sure the legacy of Wayne Static lives on, by turning demos and otherwise unreleased material as well as the last studio recordings of Wayne into two album releases, Volume 1 and 2. While I missed out on getting an autograph from Wayne when he was still alive, I've now got an autographed version of Volume 2 on my music shelf. Evil Disco forever!

  1. Justice - Hyperdrama

I've been a fan of Justice since high school. Admittedly, I wasn't crazy about most of their stuff since the debut album. But, for some reason, when I saw the artwork, and heard the singles promoting this release, I got really excited. I preordered the limited edition on vinyl, and went out of my way to make sure I didn't hear any of the other songs on the record until I got my copy and could listen on my system. So glad I did, because the flow of this album is great in my opinion. Crisp, new, funky, French electro. A no-skip for sure.

  2. Joey Valence & Brae - NO HANDS

I heard a clip of the first track "BUSSIT" on Tiktok one day, and was like "Whoa who the hell is this??". Very reminiscent of Beastie Boys, these self-produced guys go wild on the mic. The tracks on this record vary from old school hip-hop, to jazz, to club bangers, to straight up techno. You can tell they just do this because they're having fun. That attitude is so refreshing in 2024, when everyone's out for the quick bucks. Banger.

  3. Gesaffelstein - Gamma

Legitimately had to check the release date on this when I first heard it. Sounds like it came through a wormhole from 1987. Never thought I'd get to hear a new, popular, darkwave record in 2024, but here we are. Gesaffelstein started out featuring A-list artists on his previous records, seemingly attempting to be a pop production factory. Then this album dropped. A total left turn. The singer on the record, Yan Wagner, perfectly compliments the dark ambiance with his baritone vocals. Pumping electronic beats, droning synths, and raw attitude.

  4. Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk

This experimentation on this record is a trip. The vocals keep you floating along, while the production introduces every color you can imagine. It exists in a space where groovy meets dreamy, where danceable meets mellow vibes. I feel like the instruments on this record can only be described with onomatopoeia. The bass cronches and the synths plonk. Listen to this whole album if you want to travel through space and time.

  5. RM - Right Place, Wrong Person

You've likely picked up on a trend here - I like deviation and experimentation. RM, if you don't know, is a member of the Kpop group BTS. Kpop artists are expected to be perfect, fit in a box, and never venture in any direction that could alter their image. Their image is the product. However, I think BTS got so big, and so successful, the artists seem to have gained some of that freedom back. This record has all the elements I love to see in a great modern hip-hop record. It's fun and vibey, jazzy and groovy, dark and uplifting.

This was quite hard to choose, but here are my 5 favorite albums in 2024.

  • Lo by Paula Cole (March 1, 2024)
Love her voice since the Where Have All the Cowboys Gone song, this new album feels different like a self dedication. The song Flying Home helped me to surpass the pain of losing a good friend that passed away in 2023.

  • Yesterwynde by Nightwish (September 20, 2024)
From a symphonic metal band here they deliver us a real symphonic album i consider this piece of art my number one in 2024 for my personal taste. i consider Yesterwynde the most mature album that showcases Nightwish's metamorphosis as a band while at the same time we received a piece of the heart of its mastermind Tuomas Holopainen exploring nostalgia, loss, and the search for meaning.

  • From Zero by Linkin Park (November 15, 2024)
Since Chester Bennington death, for the fans has being hard to find or accept a replacement for the band, somehow Mike Shinoda found a way incorporating Emily Armstrong as the new singer and while a lot accepted her some o us are still struggling to, but after hearing the album i perceive clear messages of loss, grief, hope and redemption, things that Chester itself would love.

  • Saviors by Green Day (January 16, 2024)
This album have a mixture of Green Day punk rock old school essence and the new alternative rock wave. Love the album for its song lyrics that make reference to various modern social and political issues today, including the American Dream, gun violence, and environmentalism.

  • Gamma by Gesaffelstein (March 29, 2024)
My nephew in New York send me this artist thorught WhatsApp, he know i love Depeche Mode dark style and invited me to listen that album, since that day i enjoy their music. of course you can perceive a more aggressive dark sound than DM, with a little touch of industrial music and the 80's synthwave. The entire album its exquisite especially if you are a Depeche Mode fan that is constantly craving hear this dark and enigmatic music style back again.

  1. Falling in Reverse - popular monster

This band is a status in metal music. Also they made an universe with official videos where the frontman made himself like a God. The title song called "Ronald" is a MASTERPIECE. Evolution and mixing metal music with rap and other sounds.

  1. Hand of Juno - psycotic banana

The frontwoman of this band is pure energy. The drummer (woman) is the genius behind most of themusic. A combo that made this band one of the greatest discovery of this year.

  1. Fulci - duck face killings

This band made music about horror movies of the master Lucio Fulci. Combination of horror theme with totally brutal music bring all metal lovers right in the Fulciverse made with mostly zombies. I love them!

  1. Eminem - the death of Slim Shady

We all agreed: the return of Eminem who just "joke" about himself and diss the world is one of the headexplosion of the year. Also Eminem is a status symbol, no other words needed.

  1. Blink 182 - one morte time part 2

As the title say with the blink 182 one more time could be forever because their music is so freaking cool! They remember us we are still young, no? YES!

Hans Zimmer - Dune: Part Two BSO

Stunning work by Hans Zimmer... elevates the film to another level and perfectly captures everything that Dune, the Fremen, the Harkonnen, etc. represent. I have a special love for TOTO's soundtrack from the 1984 film, but I have to admit that Zimmer does an incredible job in this new 2-part version.

As a lover of soundtracks, and of Frank Herbert's work, I can't stop listening to it.

Judas Priest - Invincible Shield

Return after 6 years since their last studio album... more powerful than ever, keeping that fantastic level, those frenetic rifts and with the incombustible voice of Rob Halford.

When I need energy and someone to recharge my batteries, what better than the Metal God?

Tribal Alliance - Mountain Realm & Tales under the Oak

Possibly the best Dungeon Synth album of all this 2024... very much in the vein of Tribal Alliance's previous works, and as evocative and immersive as ever.

Irreplaceable for all my role-playing and board game sessions.

Shabaka Hutchings - Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace

This impressive work, based mainly on the delightful sounds of the shakuhachi, but with an innumerable range of instruments, takes modern jazz to the next step. Delicate but emotionally intense.

When I need a bit of peace and quiet, this album always does the job.

Piotr Musiał ~ Frostpunk 2 BSO

Anyone who has played this magnificent game will agree on how brilliant this BSO is... for me the best videogame BSO of all 2024; orchestral music like lots of strings, wind, percussion, and chamber voices that will leave you frozen... as it should be.

This album is more than just ‘the background’ of the game, and many nights it often accompanies me before I go to sleep.

1: Kendrick Lamar's 'GNX': Dropped without any prior announcement, 'GNX' has earned widespread acclaim for showcasing Lamar's ongoing artistic growth. This album masterfully intertwines deep self-reflection with powerful, hard-hitting tracks, cementing his reputation as one of the most dynamic artists in contemporary music.

2: Vampire Weekend's 'Only God Was Above Us'*: This album has captivated critics and fans alike in 2024 with its bold songwriting and a distinctive sonic landscape. Its ambitious approach to music has made it a standout favorite, earning it high praise and establishing it as a cherished gem of the year.

3: “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" centers on the internal conflict between Eminem and his notorious alter ego, Slim Shady. This album unfolds as a narrative journey, exploring themes of identity, legacy, and transformation. Through its tracks, it metaphorically chronicles the "death" or retirement of Slim Shady, marking a pivotal moment where Eminem confronts and ultimately decides to move beyond this facet of his persona.

4: Magdalena Bay - 'Imaginal Disk': Despite garnering critical praise, this synth-pop gem from Magdalena Bay flew somewhat under the radar, not reaching the audience it deserved. Its concept-driven narrative and tracks weave together to create a uniquely engaging and immersive listening experience, making it a standout album that merits more recognition.

5: Yung Lean & Bladee - 'Psykos': This album marks a touching joint effort between Yung Lean and Bladee, reflecting on their past with a nostalgic touch. Although their significant impact on the cloud-rap genre would suggest otherwise, 'Psykos' did not garner the broad recognition it potentially should have, making it an under appreciated gem in their discography.

A

I don't generally recommend music to anyone but here are my top 5 albums of as a regular music listener, though I may lack some references.

ALIEN STAGE mix

As someone who got into this late, I found it highly addictive to listen on to repeat with some of my top favourites being Blink Gone and Unknown

Tetoris - TETO

Although this album has been based on an old game it still lives rent free in my head

EVE - Kaikai Kitan

I was watching an anime, and at that time, my social media FYP was flooded with this song, and it was and still is really fun to listen to.

Backlight - Ado

I’m always amazed when Ado sings, and every song has its own unique characteristic. Not to mention how unique her voice is.

PLAN A - Dish//

As someone who regularly watches anime, I gotta say that this is one of the best intro we've got for 2024

1. Charli XCX – Brat

Charli XCX is one of those artists who never stops innovating, and with Brat, she’s redefined the concept of modern pop. This album is an explosive mix of electronic sounds, lyrics balancing hedonism and insecurities, and energy that captivates you from start to finish. Songs like "Bad for Me" and "Neon Heart" blend pounding beats with irresistible melodies. It’s an album that speaks to Gen Z without being cliché—a cocktail of anger, joy, and melancholy.

2. Kendrick Lamar – GNX

Kendrick Lamar is back with an album that, as always, is more than just music—it’s a statement. GNX explores complex themes like social justice, the meaning of identity, and the weight of expectations. Tracks like "Iron Veil" and "Cycles" combine powerful lyrics with minimalist production that emphasizes the message. Every listen reveals a new layer of meaning. Kendrick never disappoints.

3. Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft

Billie Eilish continues to amaze with her ability to evolve. Hit Me Hard and Soft feels deeply personal, almost like an intimate conversation with the listener. The lyrics delve into vulnerability, growth, and the complicated relationship with fame, all accompanied by unique production, once again crafted by her brother Finneas. Songs like "Echoes" and "Fragile Threads" are so emotional that it feels like stepping into her mind.

4. Beyoncé – Cowboy Carter

Beyoncé has proven she can do anything with Cowboy Carter, an album that blends country with her unmistakable R&B style. This album plays with the concept of American identity, using country as a language to explore themes of resilience and belonging. Tracks like "Rodeo Blues" and "Freedom Trail" are both innovative and nostalgic. Beyoncé challenges expectations and triumphs once again.

5. The Smile – Wall of Eyes

Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner have created another masterpiece with Wall of Eyes. This second album from the trio is a cerebral journey filled with jagged transitions and melodies that linger in your mind. Tracks like "Hollow Frames" and "Spectral Truth" showcase the band’s ability to transform complex emotions into sonic art. It’s an album that demands attention but rewards listeners with moments of pure beauty.

These albums not only defined 2024 but also showed that music can be innovative, personal, and universal at the same time. Every listen offers something new, and I believe they’ll continue to leave a mark for years to come.
