Furnaces blazing, wheels grinding, and hammers pounding, your workshop is the most useful of all the rooms in your homesteads. As such, it's important to make it look and run right. For this bounty, we want you to send us videos and/or pictures of your workshops.
Whether via audio commentary or accompanying text, explain both your aesthetic and practical choices too. If you think your workshop build is especially efficient or effective, you can share some tips as well.

It's still the first workshop I built at the base of my tower, just rearranged the workstations to be kind of grouped together by similar function / material usage.
Top left: the simple workbench, saw table, spinning wheel and sewing bench
Top right: same area from the other direction, so you can also see the simple smelter which has been placed to reach all workstations to buff them
Bottom left: showing the workstations on the other side of the smelter: simple upgrade bench and enchanters focus on the left wall and simple mortar and tanning station on the right wall.
Bottom right: tried to take a picture of the whole area, my companion refused to move, so there she is, Agnes, the bane of my existence.
(Fun fact, my mother-in-law is also called Agnes and she's a sweetheart, so I was happy when this was the name of the first NPC I came across.... but then ingame Agnes is a real pain in the backside. We really need NPC controls)
In Nightingale, crafting is not only about using complex multi-tier materials. Players can also achieve additional effects, unlock unique designs, and expedite production by strategically placing augmentations. However, there are a few things to consider.
Firstly, these augmentations have a limited effect range, visible when placing or moving them. A bluish dashed line indicates the effect's projection towards workstations, and line of sight is crucial. Secondly, each workstation has a limited number of slots for effects. Therefore, it’s not effective to cluster all augmentations in one spot. Also, one augmentation can impact all workbenches within its range (approximately 1.5 foundations).
Workstations also perform better when they are under a roof, well-lit, and warm (by any fire source). After extensive experimentation, I’ve devised an efficient workshop layout that maximizes crafting speed and effect for any item.
Here's a concise blueprint: The workshop is 3x3 foundations, reducing travel time between benches and storage, and enabling augmentation effects without duplication. I suggest constructing a two-story building without an actual floor for ample headroom. The second row of walls should ideally have windows for additional light.
Place a campfire or cooking station at the center for an instant 'well-lit' and 'warming' effect throughout the workshop. Around the central zone, position shelves filled with corresponding augmentations. This setup allows you to temporarily adjust the effects on specific workbenches by moving an augment.
Along the wall perimeter, place all your production and workbenches. In my layout, there are three table saws, three blacksmithing hearts, and double Masonry Bench, allowing for multiple stations for mass production. All other workstation are not that time consuming, so i keep them just 1 copy.
Lastly, for storage, I find utilizing a utilitarian shelf with five Voyager’s steamer trunks most effective. This setup offers extensive storage (up to 200 items) with a minimal footprint. Plus you can organize materials into separate boxes for easy access. Note that once you move the trunks on a shelf, they cannot be placed back in the same way, but you can always rebuild them.
I hope these tips assist you in efficiently producing materials for JA next big bounty!
I have so many things to do I still only have my starter base, but looking at yours is always such an inspiration to keep going and unlock more blueprints.
This is awesome! I've always admired people who manage to create sweet bases or homes in games. Sadly my building skills have always been functional, basic or silly :D your attention to detail is spot on.
This is the very first community-suggested bounty we've run from our very first Nightingale suggest-a-bounty bounty. It was put forward by Sturmer, who adds:
"In Nightingale, the efficiency of your workshop is crucial. It’s not just about crafting; it’s about smartly managing your space. From ensuring proper roofing and lighting to maintaining warmth and strategically placing augmentations and storage, every detail counts. This is where your creativity and optimisation shine."
