Did you know that you don't need your SRV to get most surface materials or thargoid/guardian relics? If you have a sharp eye, you can equip a ship with a normal beam laser to break off pieces, and use your cargo scoop to collect them. This works best in small ships such as the Dolphin or Imperial Courier.
