SKYHOOKING!

Seriously, stealing magmatic gas and superionic ice from other players in EVE Online is one of the quickest and easiest ways of making absurd amounts of ISK. There is a modicum of luck involved, to be sure, but for the most part you can guarantee success by doing your research and preparations. It can even be done solo!

A quick rundown: Prepare by putting
a good fit together for the job. Then, when the time is nigh, scout the map out to see which Skyhooks are vulnerable. Find a juicy looking hook with a decent amount of time left on it then see if you can find a wormhole leading anywhere near it using EVE Scout or EVE Metro, or just use a null sec filament and hope for the best. When you approach the hook and the system it is in take note of the systems two jumps before / after it on your journey, or any that are nearby enough to be alerted when you initiate the robbery. (Lurm the Slurm TipTopProTip: Rob hooks when the residents of the space are asleep, or perhaps busy with a big in-game event or occurence!) No players nearby? All clear? Deal with the rats and start the link!

Then, the hardest part, the waiting. If all goes according to plan and you have done your work you will leave the space richer than you when you arrived in it, far richer. If the haul is big enough to warrant immediate extraction, use a Pochven filament to escape and haul the loot back to safety.

That's it! I have made the bulk of my fortune (that I have subsequently wasted) doing Skyhooking. If you have any questions feel free to ask away! <3

Hot topics: is local an intelligence channel or chat channel?

Ahhh, greetings fellow citizens of this space! I am Lurm the Slurm and I am here to tell you that your communication windows should be sized to at least half your HUD space at a minimum. The real game is, after all, played in local chat!

Seriously, though, local chat and player run chat channels are in my mind the lifeblood of the game and one of the main reasons the game feels as live as it does. This includes the local chat box itself, and then the players in the chat and their names and portraits. It truly is at the heart of all things in EVE. The feeling of jumping into a system on your way to rob its ESS and seeing no one. The quickening of the pulse when you see a name pop up in wormhole space or Pochven. The pride and joy that comes from the 'gf' given to you by someone you've just managed to defeat in honorable, or dishonorable combat. The deal or deed you've been hunting for being requested or posted in Jita 4-4. That private communication or mail from an old friend inviting you to join them on their glorious adventure once more.

There's nothing else like it and there's no way anyone would be able to convince me it is merely a 'tool for gathering intelligence'. While I believe that is true, I also believe it is just so much more to so many people. I was SHOCKED to hear that some people have local chat minimized, or have portraits hidden, or have it so small that they can't even see a single sentence in it...

...I just cannot believe it.

The real game is played in local chat!

Beyond AIR: Tell us about EVE's unofficial career paths!

ROLEPLAYING!

So, you have heard about the lesser known (but still totally legit) 'Roleplaying' Career Path in New Eden and you want to get started? Well, you've come to the right place, Lurm the Slurm is here and all is well in the world once more. Let my Vexatious existence be all that matters to you for the next few minutes while I teach you all you need to know!

This career path, while less often persued by those that call the stars their home, can be the most fruitful and rewarding of all if approached with the right mindset and expectations. Engaging in roleplaying with other pilots in New Eden, or beyond, can earn you new and exciting opportunities, friendships to last a lifetime, and adventures that span the stars. It can also net you some pretty decent ISK if you are well enough versed and brave enough. It won't be for everyone, but for those that make it work it can allow you to develop skills that will spill over and help you in all avenues you follow. The biggest draw of Roleplaying? You can do it in any vessel, or even none at all!

Now... to get started you'll want to start by finding a sufficiently populated space and doing one of the following and waiting for them to yield results:

Pose a cryptic question: Why are we still here? Just to suffer?

Regale them with a tale: It all started on that fateful day so many years ago when a single star decided that it was their time to fall from the sky...

Give them advice: Don't waste your time looking back, you're not going that way!

Threaten them: You have been a thorn in my side for far too long!

The most important thing, and the biggest hurdle for most, is sending that first communication. It is just like undocking your ship, as long as you are doing it, you are winning. Don't be discouraged if they do not reply immediately, or at all, for roleplaying is a game of people and patience.

While these are just the basics, they are still more than enough to get your started. So get out there, send those communications, make those connections, and always remember that you are the main character of your own tale, everybody else is entering YOUR story midway through the plot.

Tackle the Roleplaying Career Path today with the pride, joy, and mischief, it deserves!
