The Pleasure of Order: Why Does Organizing In Games Feel So Good ?
Have you ever asked yourself why most gamers make sure to organize things in games like farming simulator, Stardew Valley or other management games ?
This behavior is actually linked to psychology.
lets take an example: In Farming Simulator, you might spend hours carefully lining up hay bales or making sure your virtual inventories are perfectly arranged. It allows us to fulfill something far beyond just fun. They tap into our human desire for perfection, mastery and control. This desire exists because of what psychologists call: the “Completionist drive”, that euphoric sensation we feel when a space or task or system finally “just looks right."
Another thing I should talk about: “The IKEA effect” that tells us we derive value from things we have arranged or assembled into existence even if it is just pixels, it still feels real.
These decisions allow us to feel a sense of calmness and organization in our hectic and chaotic lives.
For example, I am not just speaking about aesthetics when I say I truly enjoy perfectly aligned rows of crops !
So that is why I created this infographic, I basically wanted to show how organizing in games equals a tad bit more of happiness in our lives. Because: let’s face it, nobody feels pleased staring at a disorganized inventory.
