Here are my five main ones I want to play through;

  1. Starfield

  2. Halo 5 and Infinite, but I'll just start from Halo 1 (inc. Halo Wars 1+2, but not the twin-stick shooters!)

  3. The Witcher 1-3

  4. The Outer Worlds

  5. Half-Life: Alyx

There are also loads of other titles I've been meaning to play, so in no particular order. . .

  • Dordogne

  • Papers Please

  • SOMA

  • Dave the Diver

  • Twelve Minutes

  • IXION (full disclosure: I did some testing with the publisher, but I've yet to play the finished article!)

  • Terra Nil

  • Viewfinder

Anyone got any suggestions based on these, or any judgement of my mish-mash taste in games! 😂

Boomer's avatar

I can't believe Baldur's Gate 3 isn't on my list. I do need to play 1 and 2 before jumping into 3.

Also Diablo 4. I bought it and have no idea why I never started it!

Someday Half Life Aylx will be released on psvr and I will then buy a psvr and Half Life Alyx and play the hell out of it.

I will be watching this discussion closely. Outside of EVE, I never have any idea what I want to play. I generally just spend my time browsing steam, thinking there's so much stuff that looks excellent and I'd like to give a go, and then logging off because I'm overwhelmed :D

Boomer's avatar

Are you me, because you sound like me!? 😂

There is a solution though!

Wings's avatar

Do you have specific genres you think you'd like to get stuck into?

Wadd Enderas's avatar

Generally I very much enjoy a Grand Strategy or an RTS. My go to outside of EVE is Europa Universalis IV

That was a great article, being as I only play two games, I don't have a backlog lol. I'm just waiting on new games.

Boomer's avatar

That must be quite liberating 😁How do you fight the overwhelming urge to just download all of the games?

Lanah Tyra's avatar

Things from my very long backlog and some of them I feel ashamed that I haven't finished yet but... you know life and work and paying bills XD

  • The Witcher 3 (started it but then had to leave it half way through and then other games came up)

  • Baldur's Gate 3

  • God of War: Ragnarok

  • Forspoken

The last 2 came in bundle with my PS5 and I'm super excited to play them, just didn't get around to them yet.

Boomer's avatar

Have you played God of War 2018 or the original trilogy?

Please let me know when you've played Ragnarok. . .I love that game so much but haven't had a chance to talk spoilers with anyone since I finished it!

Lanah Tyra's avatar

I played the 2018 version and it made me want to check out the originals (which are also on my very long backlog)

Will definitely let you know, probably it'll be only after FF7 Rebirth

Boomer's avatar

That's fair! There's also the suggested remake/remaster of the original trilogy in the works.

Wings's avatar

I know everyone's saying it but Baldur's Gate 3 is just something else, especially as it can play out so many different ways depending on your character class and party. I kind of needed to get out of my typical gaming mindset because I kept thinking there were only a couple of ways to tackle any scenario and the reality is that theres so much more to do in such creative approaches to things

Lanah Tyra's avatar

That's what I love about it too based on what I've seen/heard. Amazing how many different ways there are to play the story.

What I don't like in FFXIV is that when you get to give different answers in a quest, it won:t change the outcome. It's just about deciding your character's personality or way of speech but the quest result will be the same. And there were plenty of quests where they could have easily made different outcomes.

I've stuck in a Valheim right now.

in plans finish Zelda TOTK, Destiny 2 new expansion, Atomic Hearth, Baldurs Gate 3, Cyberpunk DLC, Eve Vanguard :)

Now i just need to play all that :)

Boomer's avatar

Have you started Zelda TOTK? I got sooo far into that but took a few days off and never returned. I'd love to hear what you think of it.

I've also just finished the Cyberpunk DLC, so that's another one I'd love to talk spoilers with people 😁Maybe we need discussions with SPOILER (Game Title): Discussion Title, so we can talk spoilers without ruining it for anyone!

Sturmer's avatar

I'm about 130 hours into TOTK, pretty sure i could like 50 h ago go and purge the last boss, but you know, its Zelda, it's all about exploration and finding tiny bits scattered around the Hyrule. The same was with BOTW, i played for 150h+ then paused for 2 years, and then after another 50-70h finished it. I think it's like a good wine, you need to hold it for a while, even after you opened - you drink it slowly

We're around the same time put in so this gives me hope. I was worried I'd need to restart it! 🍷

Seán 's avatar

Tears of the Kingdom is so good.

Nicole's avatar

I need to finish Jedi Last Survivor which shouldn't take too long so I just need to actually do it. I started it and was really enjoying it before getting distracted by other games.

Boomer's avatar

Cameron Monaghan is such a great actor! I really hope they bring his character from the games into the main Star Wars movies (or preferably TV shows).

His portrayal of the Joker in the Gotham TV show was absolutely fantastic!

Seán 's avatar

I feel Gotham is really underrated.

Boomer's avatar

It really was amazing! I'd recommend to anyone watching that they should skip the final episode, as it's tonally inconsistent.

Other than that, I'd argue it's the best DC media (film or TV) and one of the top superhero shows.

. . . and it has the best depiction of Batman's bodyguard, or. . .

Seán 's avatar

100% Sean Pertwree Nailed it. Favourite version of the character.

Seán 's avatar

As a big scaredy cat but love Alan Wake would love to see Alan Wake 2. Also Sea of stars and and Dredge. Streaming wise more older stuff like the Rise of the Tomb radier games, Shadow of the Colossus and Zelda Breath of the Wild. Maybe Uncharted to start with something easy.

Boomer's avatar

These are some top notch recommendations! Somehow Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, and The Last Guardian completely passed me by.

Have you played either of the others?

Seán 's avatar

Oh Last Guardian is on of my favorite games of all time. Its the reason I'm going back to shadow of the colossus. Someday will make a video why i love it so much. Hard to recommend as it is janky as hell but God I love it. Ico past me by totally too.

My [insert name of a launcher here] game lists are not that big but not small either but if I had to pick up on the spot some games that I'd like to play in 2024...

To play from scratch in no particular order: A Plauge Tale Innocence Ghostrunner Ghostwire Tokyo Marvel's Guardians of the galaxy Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition SW: KOTOR II And some other "minor" games.

To finish in no particular order: Transistor (I'm stuck and I might restart it xd) Life is Strange Jedi Knights II (I'm stuck xd) SW: KOTOR (plagued by crashes xd) SW: Republic Commando (I'm stuck xd)

Then of course if I could have infinite budget... the possibilities are endless: Cities Skylines II, SW: Jedi Survivor, CP77, Starfield, BG3, Stray, No Man's Sky, just to mention in no particular order the top of my steam wishlist.

Boomer's avatar

We've got a lot of similar games in our backlog, particularly the ones you want to play from scratch! I'm sure they'll end up in my 2025 list to go back to 😆
