I feel that Lego:Star Wars is the best movie/video game tie-in. I grew up with the movies and Lego. My son has grown up with the new movies and Lego. The game is something we can both enjoy. The game is the best of both worlds all in one. It would be fun to create your own things with lego blocks in the game but it only gives you the option to quick build pre assembled items. Oh well. Still a blast of fun for all ages.

I want to say, Peter's Jackson King Kong video game. It is a great game, quite difficult but since it is a telling of the movie in the game form, maybe it doesn't qualify. But the secret ending is a nice touch, altough difficult to get

For me, it has to be Robocop on the 128k Spectrum, at the time movie tie ins were all just shameless cash-ins.

This game was one of the very first licensed titles that had clearly been lavished with respect and care for the original up it was based on, topped off with an amazing Johnathan Dunn soundtrack.

Still a title I’ll go back and play through every few years.

Really surprised no one has mentioned this bad boy yet.

It's arguably a generic hack and slash but evident by the hours I poured into split screen, it was a great tie for it's time. Honestly most of the LoTR tie in games were good, Return of the King had some of the best levels though, I have fond memories of running around as Gimli murdering every orc in my sights.

One gaming title that's immediately jumped to my brain is Avatar. This probably comes from a bias point of view as I'm a really big Avatar fan, but I generally had a really good time playing the original game all those years ago. Avatar is one of my favourite movie series. Although being known for the most expensive movie franchise Avatar captivates a world of imagination and almost endless possibility into their world. With constant discovery of wildlife, plants, animals, or even new races, it's certainly one of the most beautiful films and I think that comes across in the game. Avatar may not be the best game ever made, but it certainly had my interest and I remember enjoying playing a lot of it.

In more recent times I've enjoyed Warcraft based of course on the World of Warcraft franchise which captivates the magical and unique world.

James Bond - Goldeneye

The Nintendo 64 game - Goldeneye was very faithful to the narrative set in the movie. Each of the locations and missions in the movie was recreated in the game along with the enemies and weapons. It also emulated the same sense of threat and urgency that was in the movie. Plus the music was authentically James Bond.

Oooh, going back a while here but I always thought Lion King for Genesis/Mega Drive was a really great tie-in. Fun gameplay and the art style felt exactly right. And the soundtrack was great too! In fact, I might go play it again now…

I think you can count the amount of acceptable movie tie-in games on one hand, depending on how far back you're willing to go. I'm going to pick one I read about when I was just a teenager:

Enter The Matrix

I wasn't able to play the game back in the day, but the articles I read in video game magazines (Remember those?!) sounded quite impressive. Enter The Matrix was a proper movie tie-in game, its story running concurrent with the story of the Matrix Reloaded film.

Back then, in the mind of a teenager (Me!), Matrix was the s**t, excuse my French. Some of the coolest kung fu action sci-fi cyberpunk stuff ever. And the game let you experience that to a degree. The Wachowskis even wrote it!

It wasn't overly favored by critics but people who were around back then remember it fondly, judging by the user scores on Metatacritic (8.0).

I don't know if it's still playable today, but everyone still remembers The Matrix. They even released a showcase demo on PlayStation when Matrix: Resurrections released. I might try and hunt down a playthrough of Enter The Matrix on YouTube!

So for this one, being a huge fan of Mad Max in general, new and older films, the game "Mad Max" was one of the better releases.

Whilst they claim it isn't based on any particular film, the game was released shortly after Mad Max Fury Road hit the cinema. Having played this, I feel it was based quite heavily on Fury Road, there are so many similarities.

It was released for:

PlatformsLinux, PC (Microsoft Windows), PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One

it's based in the same vein as Assassin's Creed etc. You play as Max Rockatansky, a former highway patrol officer who is trying to find fuel for his interceptor. This game focuses on vehicle combat as its main theme which Fury Road was also based on.

Hope this is allowed as an entry, it's about the best example I can find that I've played.

Oooh, this is a fantastic choice!! I bought the game a week or two after launch and it surprised me so much that I ended up 100%ing it - I even went the achievements that took me a long time.

The Arkham style combat was nothing new but that meant that they didn't have to reinvent something for the fighting.

And as a car guy, I loved just racing around in a cobbled together car. I kept putting upgrades on it and wondered why it wouldn't let me drift across the sand, when I realized that I should just make it lighter. That's an aspect of car modification that I expected from Forza or Gran Turismo. Blew my mind.

TL;DR: Great game, great choice. Now I have to come up with something else. 🤣

Can't beat the Lego Star Wars game for the original trilogy, still holds up so incredibly well after so many years and still so fun to play even as an adult.

This might by nostalgia but as a kid harry potter and the chamber of secrets om ps2 was amazing. Back then being attacked by the whomping willow while crashing the car was great. I'd only recently got the console so the graphics were impressive. The only downside was it kept me from being properly wary of movie tie in games lol.

I think one of the best tie in games is Enter the Matrix from 2003.

It was very janky even for the time and didnt review well however the story follows Niobe and the crew of the Logos during the Reloaded and Revelations Matrix films and what they were doing while Neo was off doing the One stuff.

It was really great to see the story from another perspective and there was even a hacking mini game where you could unlock cheats and extras.

I'm a fan of the world of "The Lord of the Rings," and I loved the tie-in: The Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

I think it's one of the best tie-ins set in Middle-earth, and I thoroughly enjoyed playing it!

The Tinkerbell games on DS!

Every time a new tinker bell film would be released (little old stella was obsessed with them), a DS game where you could play through the story as your own custom fairy would come out.

My favourite game was always the first one though, since it felt very open world at the time! (it probably didn't stand the test of time though hahah)

Years and years ago... in my student days, Tomb Raider on PS2 was a thing. My flatmate used to play it - i used to watch - it was compelling viewing!

I only played it a few times myself, but it was great fun - surprisingly immersive for a walkthrough and find stuff kind of game with some great little cut scenes. 10/10 would play it again if i ever had the opportunity! Also would throw me back to my student years eating rice crispies and coc pops and watching the teletubbies before lectures! :D

I'm noticing a pattern here with our old-school picks! My choice takes us back to 1997, to the iconic movie 'Men in Black.'

The game was a fascinating blend of action shooting, melee combat, and puzzle-solving.

Nearly 30 years later, the graphics might seem fuzzy, but back then, I was blown away by the sharply rendered backgrounds and the 3D animated characters. It was a graphical marvel of its time!
