I'll never forget the panic of seeing that t-rex for the first time!
I feel like they sorta messed up Lara Croft over the years. The reboot series she's unrecognisable imo. At least it seems like with the remasters and the new design illustration they released they're looking to course correct. I still think the face isn't quite right but at least she's wearing her iconic tank top and combat shorts
Oh really? Honestly I adored the 2013 reboot. Before she was a tiger blasting psycho going out of her way to waste indigenous critters so she could better line up a puzzle jump. I felt the reboot trilogy got exponentially less relatable with every entry, but the first one was lovely.
But, let's be honest, we ALL want to see Lara in the tank and shorts...
I'm talking more about her visual design than the gameplay itself, I just have a hard time recognising her as Lara
Oh okay, I gotcha. It wouldn't have been TOO hard to have her in the classic outfit hanging out on the Endurance when the storm hit. Shorts and an tank is comfy sleepwear, afterall

Unfortunately with questions like this, the most boring answer is usually the correct one, so for my money it's obviously Mario and no-one comes close. I was thinking about this earlier and I think if I wanted to rank who I thought were the Top Ten Most Iconic in terms of recognisability from people on the street I think it'd go like:

Perhaps blasphemy but I don't think Sony make very unique characters, at least not anymore. They're mostly just regular realistic looking people

Boring IS boring and lord knows I hate to see Mario succeed over Sonic but sometimes you've gotta accept the way things are
I still maintain Sonic to be the most recognizable to even new generations as a lot of teenagers have no idea who Lara Croft is
I remember a while ago someone on Twitter started a poll over who was the more popular character, Sonic or Link, and it started a huuuge debate. The answer, to me, is obvious - t's Sonic and it's not close. I think people who are deep into games undervalue Sonic's mainstream appeal and overvalue Link, because the average quality of Zelda games is higher than Sonic. Few characters could survive releasing games like Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom, but Sonic can weather any storm
I love Lara, and she is without a doubt one of the GOATS, but surely it’s got to be Mario?
