A bit basic but this is some of the main stuff to have a smoother ride.

  1. Build Bridges:

o Tip: You can’t swim. Jumping into a stream isn’t great. Build a bridge using foundation pieces and roof parts. Spend 10 minutes now, save hours later.

  1. “Teleport” to Respawn Point:

o Tip: Set a respawn point by placing a bed and activating it with the “F” key. Now, when you restart the game (like, exit to the main menu), you’ll magically appear at your respawn point.

  1. Antenna Sense

o Tip: You’ve got this special sense called Antenna Vision (press “V”). It highlights resources, enemies, and even mob vulnerabilities. tiny radar.

  1. Hold “F” to Hoard All the Things:

o Tip: When harvesting, hold “F” to pick up all items at once.

  1. Repair Your Gear

o Tip: Repair your equipment often

  1. Build Beds, Camps, and Outposts

o Tip: Claim a great tree or build a cozy camp. Beds are essential

  1. Don’t Fear Damage

o Tip: Take a hit, shake it off. Some creatures only spawn at night

Its you are explorer, builder or simply a gamer who simply bad at combats like a do, then there is a solution for you!

You can set server/world into a peaceful mode. It means what creatures will wonder around minding their business, and attack you only if you attacked them first. Whis allows you to harvest various gathering materials and potions, plus you can initiate a combat on your terms.

Just keep in mind, group creatures like black ants or bees will aggro you if you attack any member of that pack.

Another great thing about it, all achievements are still counting and you can enable/disable that setting any moment, turning this hardcore survival game into a relaxed exploration journey!

Smalland is a fantastic game, and as Limal suggested, you can adjust the difficulty to suit your play style. However, for those who prefer a more challenging experience while optimizing their gameplay, here are my top three tips:

Ultra-Fast Sheltering

If you find yourself caught in a sudden downpour or cold snap, quickly place a Wood Foundation high enough that you can crouch underneath it. This setup counts as 'sheltered,' providing all associated benefits. This method is much quicker and cheaper than constructing full walls and a roof.

Weatherproofing

It took some experimentation to realize that floors used as ceilings do not protect against weather damage. To effectively shield yourself and your belongings from the elements, ensure you use proper roofing materials designed to withstand weather conditions.

Combat the Cold

Seasons in Smalland change swiftly, with winter arriving after about five game days or roughly 2.5 real-time hours. Preparation is key to survival. Within your first two hours of gameplay, plan to combat the cold. You can either craft a cauldron to make frost resistance potions or build three pieces of padded armor, both of which are adequate to keep you safe from the harsh winter conditions outside.

These tips should help you maintain efficiency and enjoy a more rigorous playthrough in Smalland.

Ok so I went into this having seen or read nothing before streaming it. I found it quite difficult as a new player and slowly figured these things out over the course of the stream:

  • I couldn't figure out why one guy shows up on your compass all the time and noone else does. You need to select them with the left mouse button on the map (which is brought up with the M key) and deselect that guy that is showing up on it all the time. The waypoints/markers you can place on the map outside of these seems to do nothing.

  • I expected the crafting bench, fireplace and everything to be in the crafting menu hence the name. What you need to do is equip the hammer, then right click. This brings up a different crafting menu with lots of stuff on it that needs a hammer to build.

  • Make sure to read and take in what the guy at the start tells you on the controls basics. Apparently there used to be a starter zone tutorial but this has been taken out for some reason so this text conversation is all you get at the start.

  • Their are owls on sticks dotted about the world. If you interact with these they are basically notices that tell you more tutorial stuff and have pretty essential info.

  • Finally, on pc there seems to be no explanation about what the world is, why you are small etc. this is because on high end pcs with fast loading times. The world building text intro doesn't come up like it does on slow pcs and consoles as it loads too quick. You should read this online instead so the world/lore makes a bit more sense.

Okay so I played this for an hour last night when I streamed it, I'll be playing more, but for now, this is my tip for new players.

  1. Make sure to use your Antenna sense using "V" to find materials and food

  2. Do NOT enter water, at all.

  3. Do not randomly attack animals, it will end badly!

  4. Make sure to keep gathering food or you run into trouble quickly

  5. There is no starter zone anymore, so pay attention to what the dude, right at the start of the game says to you, it's important.

  6. You need a crafting hammer quickly, so make one ASAP

  7. You need to equip it to build things, press TAB to access that menu

I will add more as I play more :)

My biggest piece of advice for new players for Smalland I would say is join their official Discord. They had a great community on there full of players of different levels (experienced or newcomer), they make playing the game super helpful! Another piece of advice would be to scour TikTok, twitch, YouTube and X (fka twitter), you will see tons of players doing walkthroughs and intros to the game, this is very helpful and handy as someone starting out. It will help build your foundation as a player and you will learn loads of helpful tips!

Thanks so much for reading and I hope this helps you out!

Ooo discord is a great idea actually, always good to be building relationships with people online to help out, games are more enjoyable when you have people to speak to them about

Okay so first off the most important thing will be to make sure you build yourself a hideout to keep you protected against some of the harm that comes your way. A bit like fortnite you're going to have to stock up on some material too, things like wood and stone and fiber can be useful, don't worry you won't be building rome in a second like fortnite

Get familiar with your surroundings, get to know where danger is and also get remembering where water is too

Start crafting, axes pickaxes and spears, useful for reseources and useful for defending yourself

Also try to keep a low profile, don't get in too much trouble! Can't get in any harm if you're not noticed

didn’t think of a hideout right away!!

Here are more detailed tips for new players to Smalland, which will help you get your adventure off to a good start:

  1. Avoid Water: In Smalland, your character cannot swim and will drown instantly if you jump into the water.

  2. Utilise Antenna Sense: This is a special ability that allows you to highlight resources and enemies, and know their resistances and vulnerabilities. Usually, Antenna Sense is activated with the ‘V’ button, but you can change it in the settings. This is very useful for knowing what kind of damage enemies are resistant or vulnerable to.

  3. Build Sanctuary: Protect your structures and chests from damage by building a roof over them. This will keep your items safe from various threats in the wild.

  4. Taming Ladybugs: Taming ladybugs as quickly as possible will be a great help on your journey, as they can be additional storage and help in exploration.

  5. Claiming Large Trees: Having a large tree as your home base can provide many benefits, such as better protection and more storage space.

  6. Create Regal Armour with Wings and Grapple Gun: Crafting this armour will make it easier for you to explore the map and avoid danger. The wings allow you to fly temporarily.

  7. Repair Your Equipment Often: Make sure to repair your equipment so that it's always in the best condition possible, so that you won't be stuck in difficult situations with broken equipment.

  8. Build Beds, Camps, and Outposts: Building these will allow you to save the game and have safe respawn points, which is crucial for progress in the game.

  9. Some Creatures Only Appear at Night: Pay attention to the time of day in the game as some creatures and resources are only available or easier to find at night.

By following these tips, Fras is confident that you will have a strong start in Smalland and be able to enjoy the game to the fullest. Happy playing and good luck!
