Charles Dickens's short novel, A Christmas Carol, encapsulates the spirit of Christmas better than perhaps any other. It's become a staple of the holiday season, and endlessly retold. The list of actors who've portrayed its miserly protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge includes some of the greatest actors of the modern era: Orson Welles. Patrick Stewart. Kermit the Frog.
(Ok, yes, Kermit doesn't count. He played Bob Cratchit.)
Now it's time for another retelling - yours. Write us your own version of A Christmas Carol, but as we're a video games community, we want a gaming spin. Set it in the world of your favourite game, use its characters, do a Ready Player One-style meta mashup of gaming universes, whatever you want. You can take some liberties with the original story, but the inspiration, theme, and message must remain clear: a miserly and cold-hearted central character is forced to confront the consequences of their choices, leading them to rediscover a capacity for generosity and joy.
You're welcome to submit in video form or written, with images strongly encouraged. The best story will get the top prize of $50, while second- and third-placed runners up will get $30 and $20 respectively. Over to you!
