Introduction
Starting a village from scratch can feel overwhelming, but with the right guidance you can establish a stable, safe, and growing settlement. This guide covers the essential steps to survive your first days in ASKA.
First Minutes: Shipwreck and Starting Resources
When the game begins, your wrecked ship works as your respawn point until you build the Eye of Odin. You’ll also return here if you use the “Unstuck” command.
Near the ship, you’ll find five glowing blue crystals inside crates. This is Jötun Blood, required to summon your first villagers. Make sure to pick them all up and keep them with you.
Basic Gathering and Your First Tools
Start by gathering food, water, and essential materials. Press Z to use the Search Area ability and highlight nearby resources.
Then press B to open the construction menu and craft your first stone axe, stone pickaxe, stone hoe, and stone hammer — all indispensable for early progression.
Exploration: Choosing the Right Place for Your Village
Before settling down, explore the map and look for an area that meets these conditions:
Close to a harvestable forest (you’ll need a LOT of wood).
With water sources nearby.
Relatively close to the sea, but not right on the shoreline.
A flat area to make construction easier.
Ideally, find a mine for future progression.
Avoid enemy spawn zones.
Essential Buildings to Start
Once you’ve found your spot, begin by constructing the basics:
Simple Fire → upgrade it later to Campfire
Rain Collector
Well
Shelter
Eye of Odin (crucial for advancing)
Summoning Your First Villager
Interact with the Eye of Odin, place the 5 Jötun Blood crystals inside, and activate it. You’ll be able to choose between two villagers with different perks (each has 5 total).
Pick the one that best fits your needs.
When they arrive, assign them to a bed/shelter.
If you don’t give them a job, they will default to Builder, which is ideal early on.
Recommended early roles:
1 Builder
1 Lumberjack
1 Hunter
1 Gatherer/Scout
Settlement Safety and Maintenance
Fences and Perimeters: Protect your village from Smolkers and invasions. If fully closed, the perimeter will show green on the map.
Lighting: Place lanterns to keep the village safer and more visible at night.
Happiness: Villagers work better when they have rest areas, leisure/prayer spots, and proper tools for their jobs.
Early Optimization and Progress
Build sleds or carts to transport wood and stone from far away.
A Health Hut helps you recover your HP faster.
A Hunter’s Cabin provides a steady flow of meat — remember to give your hunter a bow and arrows.
Update or create new gathering zones so villagers always have tasks available.
Conclusion
With these steps, you’ll be able to establish a solid, safe, and steadily growing settlement. ASKA rewards good planning — the better you organize your first days, the smoother your village’s expansion will be.
