A

I think my favourite word in the language has to be understand, understand is such a key word and thing to do to help someone else with their emotions, to feel connect with people, and get to a point where you can really connect with people who do not feel understood

K

To be honest im gonna keep it simple, the F*** word. The fact that it is a very versatile word within the english language and depending on the context can hold different value and meaning. It can be used to insult, it can connect with other words as a compound, it can be use to emphasise an expression etc. Its just a simple yet flexible word.

Farewell

/ˌfɛːˈwɛl/

exclamation

used to express good wishes on parting

I never liked how goodbye sounded, it was somehow too casual yet not really meaningful. I read farewell in books but didn't quite understand the meaning until in a movie they said "fare you well" and finally it all made sense. I love how it focuses on good wishes for the other person upon parting ways with them.

My favourite word is...

sumptuous

/ˈsʌm(p)tʃʊəs/

Because it leads onto my second favourite word, "Splendid" - Which everytime I say, drives my wife nuts xD

So I think it's a valid reason to love this word!

My favourite word in the English language, is the word DRIZZLE.

Seriously, just say it out loud - drizzle. Doesn’t it make you smile a little bit? It’s one of those words that sounds exactly like what it is. Like soft and a little bit silly. I can’t help but picture a tiny raincloud tiptoeing across the sky gently sprinkling droplets like it’s trying not to wake anyone up.

And honestly, isn’t it? Just a funny word? Drizzle. It’s like the word itself is playing a harmless little prank. Making you chuckle as it dances off your tongue. Whether it’s describing a gentle rain or that moment when you’re just adding the right amount of syrup to your pancakes, drizzle is a word that doesn’t take itself too seriously and I love that about it.

In a world of serious complicated words, drizzle is like that friend who can always always make you laugh with just a look. It’s light and breezy and just plain fun to say. So next time your caught a drizzle, don’t run for cover enjoy the little giggle it brings instead!

Incomprehensible (adj.)

This word just scratches a part of my brain that no other word does. It could be the way it rolls off the tongue and you can annunciate each syllable, or the fact that it has a few different ways to use it.

I just light up when I get a chance to use this word, but I will note it was a close decision between this and Indecipherable

Irie

I don't know why, but I really like how the word flows when I say it. Probably because I have Jamaican relatives and I used to get a kick out of hearing them say it as a kid.

Love.

It is strong, emotional, and can be meaningful and meaningless at the same time. It often brings harm and pain, while for others it can be joy and happiness.

I just love it, simply because it is about human interaction.

This is going to be a slightly sappy one but recently it definitely has to be fiancé, as each time I say it, it brings a smile to mine and my partner’s face. The engagement is still pretty new but it’s definitely not something I will be getting used to anytime soon. I’m sure in the future, it’s likely to get dethroned by husband but right now, definitely this. Also, sharing the news with all of our friends has been such a wholesome time and it just adds to how much the word means to me.

ineffable (adj)

ineffable is the quality of something that surpasses the capacity of language to exspress it, often being in the form of taboo or incomprehensible term. Sometimes I also have a wild toughts that are outside the toughts of people in general and make me say them often

One.

My favorite word in the English language is "One".

"One" is a simple, yet powerful word. It signifies unity, singularity, and the beginning of most things, including math. It represents the idea that even the most complex structures or concepts start with a single element. The word highlights individuality and uniqueness, reminding us that each person, idea, or moment holds significance on its own. It's a progress.

Samples:

  1. She stood alone, but she felt like one with the universe.

  2. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step.

  3. He was the one who made all the difference.

  4. That was a scary one.

  5. She chose the meaningful one.

  6. The best one is yours.

Onomatopoeia (Noun)

A nightmare to spell but a very interesting word to look at and fun to say 🤓, with a greater-than-average number of vowels per letter.

Meaning when a word sounds like the sound it is describing, eg:

Buzz

Bang

Snap

Squish

Wallop!

leptospirosis

"an infectious bacterial disease occurring in rodents, dogs, and other mammals, which can be transmitted to humans."

As an army medic you come accross alot of long latin and medical words but leptospirosis is my favourite as its just really fun to say.

Horror and Cats's avatar

I've always loved "tetradotoxin" as a word and a naturally ocurring compound. Especially with its use in, and connection to voodoo. What a fascinating poison

Paul's avatar

Oh the puffer fish toxin. I like anyword that feels like linguistic gymnastics lol

S

Exponentially

Fun to say and you’ll use it exponentially once you get used to saying it

Learn/learning (verb)

learning, I really like this word, because learning is fun, the word learning itself has a broad meaning, not just learning at school, but from the word learning, we can do various things such as learning to love ourselves, learning to understand others, learning to make new things, learning to appreciate others and so on, that's why I really like the word learning, because we can learn many new things by learning

Schadenfreude (noun)

“Pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.”

There are some fantastic words we adopted from languages other than English which capture complex ideas in a single string of letters, but schadenfreude is by far my favorite.

Feeling pleasure from another’s pain is a very specific vibe. Sometimes it’s because you dislike the person, but other times it’s not really for a discernible reason.

As Maynard James Keenan once very poignantly lyricized:

“I own a TV ‘cause tragedy thrills me.

Whatever flavor it happens to be”

Edit: for any pedantic types out there, it is in the Oxford English Dictionary, so don’t @ me about it not being English lol.

S

It’s also the title/subject of one of the best musical theatre songs ever written/performed

Horror and Cats's avatar

What song/play is that? I'd like to check it out. I've also written a short horror story on the subject

M

Ultimate (noun)

“The best achievable or imaginable of its kind.”

I like this word, as it's a way of saying that something or someone is the best version of themselves/itself. Examples of the word Ultimate (or variations) being used in this way would be the following:

Ultimate Spider-Man.
• Ben 10 Ultimate Alien.
Ultra Street Fighter 4.

Loquacious (adj.)

tending to talk a great deal; talkative.

I love this word and I occasionally bust it out when I want to feel smart or flex on the English language. So next time someone describes you as a chatty Carol - just say that you're just being loquacious

Ex. I find loquacious individuals difficult to deal with at parties

S

Well, this is me! Surprised no one has ever called me this before

Horror and Cats's avatar

I've always considered loquaciousness as a positive trait. It's not just "talkative," it also represents being well-spoken: a gifted orator. I would never describe someone who just makes noise with their mouth continuously as loquacious.
