Instagram are giving creators the option to make their reels downloadable, but will this change how you engage with it?
As the article points out, you're sure to see the Instagram logo appearing in new TikTok clips. A sure bet and easy way to reduce creator workload.
Would this encourage you to cross-post content to similar platforms, or are there more novel ways this could be used?

so you can download anyone publicly posted reel? Whats the benefit in that? Doesn’t that just mean people can take their content off platform?
From what I can tell a creator can enable reel downloads, so followers can download the content.
This is what I'm trying to figure out. I can't figure out how this would be used, so I'm turning to our expert panel of content creators (that's you!) to see if you have any novel ideas.
All I can think is archiving or enabling remixing, but there are plenty of tools that let you do that anyway.
yeah its a weird one, I get why you would want to download your own reels but not others, maybe there hoping people will report instagram reel originals to TikTok to capture some of their audience or something, kind of the reverse of tiktoks appearing everywhere?
I could see that. It gives the audience a way to spread content around, but now it takes extra steps.
yeah, I don't think I really like the option tbh, I know people can always find a wy to capture your content if they really wish but it would be nice to see this tied to some form of monetisation opportunity for creators, maybe like for paying subscribers this function is available or something... dun just seems odd.
