Its interesting to watch, YouTube is trying to become more like TikTok and TikTok is trying to become more like YouTube! Do we like the one size fits all platform or did we prefer when each platform had its speciality? im not so sure how I feel about it.... Is there monetisation programme still a creator fund pool? If they get something like YouTube Partner Programme I can see more creators posting long form videos there, or maybe just repost existing YouTube Content?

There was a good chat about this a while back. It's not surprising that features are shared across platforms, but what does surprise me is how landscape video feels so radical a change on TikTok.

I agree that more people will likely start cross-posting content, and I hope this means more benefit for the creators. We'll see!

I would be totally reposting my Youtube videos then. Not sure how much people would watch landscape videos though as TikTok is still more popular on phones and people just scroll through the vertical stuff? I think it would need a better web version of the app for this to have a chance against Youtube.

I kind of start to like that platforms are trying to be the same. Makes it a lot easier to reuse content and get more visibility simply by posting the same thing to different platforms rather then having to make a completely new format.

That's a fair point about scrolling through vertical feeds. Portrait video does seem to fit this better.

So what are the chances TikTok introduce the option to swap between a vertical and horizontal feed? I'm guessing zero, but it just might work! 😃

That would be an actually really cool idea. Chances are zero but... never know :D

How do people watch Youtube on their phones? Not shorts but the normal Youtube content. 99% of the time I watch on PC and the few odd occasions when I need to check a guide or something on my phone I find it a bit inconvenient with having to turn the screen then turn back and the video still playing in a tiny corner even if I tab back from it. Maybe just be being old XD

I feel your pain 😂 For me it's when you turn your phone and wait for it to go landscape, but for some reason it doesn't. Then you get trapped in this cycle of turn it portrait and the video goes full screen, but then you turn the phone landscape and the video exits full screen mode!

IMO this is stupid, Tiktok/shorts were designed for portrait, i hate having to keep turning my phone because if you have the screen tilt on, it goes the other way so u have to freeze it, then when you do something else like Netflix, you have to turn it back on.
