I get my best results from longform with lengths between 20-30 minutes. Tight editing can turn an hour of gameplay to half that with no lag in flow, but also no pieces missing.

If something funny/weird happens and takes less than 10 seconds to play out, I’ll clip it into a short.

I really don’t do much live and when I do, it’s usually because I’m dog tired of editing for the week haha

yeah I’m still a bit confused by I think it’s called shiny object syndrome 😄 so I don’t know the direction I want to go. I didn’t know if I want to focus on gaming or people and life. But I think in the end my true passion is in games. More towards open world rpg/ survival genre. And will be doing long form, live and shorts to supplement. Like Asmondgold TV is where I want to be. I saw he has only about 2-3 mil subs. But his videos are long and his followers are loyal. Compared to say this YouTuber https://youtube.com/@im_siowei?si=NwIN5s7e5U1FIu23

Only shorts. In a short time she has 7mil subs and tons of views per vid. So I though I’d ask for advise from people who have been around longer in the YouTube game.

Where I want to be is probably like Asmondgold. I know he has less subs but I’m sure his following is a different crowd. The shorts people have shorter attention spans.

See I thought you were focused on gaming lol. I have no idea what the formula is for variety/skit YouTubers.

My pets channel I started is Shorts only and just from about two weeks it’s gotten about 50k views and 100 some odd subs.

It depends on what format fits best the content you want to make. Is it more live / let's play edited content? Short funny or tutorial videos? Longer guides or reviews? Some will only work best with one form, others will have a main form and then occasionally compliment with other forms.

For example my main content is short guide videos with occasional reviews / thoughts. I have some short videos, like funny moments in raids or a quick show of a new feature ingame. And because I multistream I also stream in Youtube so those who like my guides can see how is it when I play those games. Actually got people checking out my streams just to thank me live for a guide. While I do put short content on Youtube, they perform way better on TikTok.

So for me it's a mix of all content really.

It's nice to have a big dream target where you want to be, just know that it will take years. Most of these people we look up to started a long time ago (some of my heroes have been creating content for 10+ years) or they got a big boost during the pandemic. Beside your big long term target also look at creators more or less your size and see what they do and how you can get there. It will be an achievement in a foreseeable time and will make you feel good and motivated to hit that milestone, and then you can look for the next one!

ya I think it’s good to get everyone’s point of view as it helps me figure myself out as well. Yup understood it takes many many years and you still might not succeed. I just don’t want to be going in the direction of let’s say pewdiepie and after 2 years I decide to go the direction of Mr.beast or something different. I get that some YouTubers evolve as well. It’s confusing at times.

My first question would be have you made any content yet? How did you get on? How id you find it and how did it perform?

Once you have done them all, pick what you enjoy most and can see yourself sticking with longer term on a consistent basis.

I do see your point. So far I posted a few content. Fitness was ok. But just feels forced. I like it but it’s not a topic I’m crazy about. Games just feel right. I know it’s saturated so many gaming channels. But I just love games and want to share my view on how I play and view them. So thanks, it got me thinking and I think I see my path a little more clearly now.

Loving what you do is the most important. No matter how many other people do it. So it will be clear when you speak that you are genuine and passionate. Burnout is also less likely if you are enjoying it and looking forward to create content.
