Seems like it's defeating the whole purpose of shorts , I don't like the idea of them being mixed up as a viewer or creator because some people simply don't touch shorts with a ten foot pole.

It does seem like strange choice and I don't know if it'll shift the way people consume content. I'm curious to see what happens!

On a related note, why do you think some people just aren't interested in shorts? The length of content is an obvious possibility, but I wonder if there's more to it.

I find the majority of short content very low quality, without any value and a waste of time to watch. Obviously there are exceptions but that's the minority of them. Most of the shorts you get fed are memes or people doing some silly / dangerous stuff. I will watch the cute cat videos but thats about it. And even with trying to teach my feed to only show me those, the amount of stuff I get which would count as animal cruelty yet people keep filming the poor animal struggling is unbelievable.

Sadly very few people create purposeful short content and not just upload something they think is funny.

I'd thought the people may have been put off because there's less to engage with, but maybe it's the other way around. What if the issue is that some creators think short videos need less planning which leads to lower quality content?

I appreciate this is a wild generalisation. There are fantastic shorts and plenty of low quality long-form videos so it's not meant to criticise any creators!

What sort of content would be better suited to short-form video? Daily news roundups and short comedy skits work well, but how else could they be used to make high quality content?

Well I can share an idea I want to introduce for my channel when I get to working on short content plan. Not necessarily daily content, as I don't have time for that, but it could be for a full-time creator. Daily tips about a game for example. I'm planning to make it "Tanking / healing tip of the day, and be a short explanation of an underutilized skill, gearing advise things like that.

It's probably the quality of most of them are on the low side, they often do things like cut off the bit where something actually happens after waiting almost the full minute, they often are without context and my personal pet peeve; have those god awful AI voices announcing things that can clearly be seen, just like on TikTok. Basically many shorts simply treat people like children.

As a content creator, I've found shorts can be hit and miss no matter the quality. Some can get thousands of views out of nowhere and then suddenly die or just not get moving at all.

I think quality is definitely a problem for shorts (also for the platform as a whole) due to generative content, most people like myself simply prefer longer form content that can give important context and detail instead of rushing things into a 60 second format.

Oh yes I forgot to mention the AI voices in my reply, those are awful and so unnecessary

I'm not a huge fan of the AI voices but I see how they can be useful for some creators.

For example if you're drawn to shorts because it's easier to make faceless videos then the AI voices let you run the channel without putting your face/voice in the spotlight. This can be great for people who may not feel confident being on camera/mic.

Another use is to reach an audience who primarily speak another language. This may not be ideal as there are translation issues that can appear in the videos, but it lets you tap into a whole new market.

If only the AI voices didn't sound so...robotic! 🤖

I've used AI voices for my old job and it is hard to make them less robotic.

It is a lot of experimentation and it can be time consuming.

Translating needs a human and there is no nuance either with AI.

I experimented with Shorts over the years and this year I did quite a bit of content and it went dead for no reason so I gave up.

I am just focused on IG tbh as it is better for me as a platform.

What are the data analysis tools like for Shorts? I've seen what YouTube shares for longer-form content, but I've not seen the dashboard for Shorts.

Did you see engagement drop off overnight or was it a slow decline?

I found your comments about Instagram and TikTok here very interesting!

I use the Creator dashboard which has all the analytics I need for long and short form content. There is a section for Shorts too and the UX and UI is good due to constant feedback from creators.

It varies wildly tbh. I also got hate dislikes for posting LGBTQ+ Content too so I don't know why the algorithm pushes it to people who it isn't for.

Thank you 😄
