This reward is going live on New Year's Eve, traditionally a time of both reflection and anticipation, of singing auld lang syne and looking to the future, perhaps, ideally, with hope. That's the spirit we'd like you to channel for this, our first fan-fiction reward on Just About Critter Café!
We'd like you to write a piece of flash fiction with the following premise: it's New Year's Eve, and two people meet in the café you've built in Critter Café.
That's it. The rest is for you to fill in; is their meeting arranged, or serendipitous (perhaps you've arranged a NYE party in your café)? Do they know each other, or are they strangers? Do they stay in your café or do they head outside to Gold Leaf Isle or the Otherlands? What are your critters getting up to, and do they affect the plot? All up to you.
Feel free to include images, and note there's a minimum word count of 500, but please don't exceed 1,500 words; if your story is much longer than that, it may be disqualified regardless of quality.
A bit of flash-fiction advice: often, aspiring authors of flash fiction fall down by trying to write an entire story, complete with beginning, middle, and end. Flash fiction doesn't need to do that, and is usually better when it doesn't. You can leave questions unanswered, mysteries unsolved, and readers wanting more. Sometimes, it can even be a single scene!
