Frequently while streaming EVE, we'll get folks in chat letting us know they've been out of the game for years, and are not sure how to get back into the game.
Almost without exception, my advice to them is this :
Start a new account, and a new character. Start over, play free.
Sometimes they are unaware EVE is F2P now. Sometimes they gasp at the idea of not using all that SP on their old account. Sometimes it's other barriers. All understandable.
I explain to them, that more often than not, returning players log into old characters, get overwhelmed by their assets being inaccessible, not knowing what they want to do, and their old account is nothing more than a list of problems and chores...for now.
Instead, start a new character on a new account. Use a referral link for the free SP, both for the new and old account (if applicable). Then rediscover your fun in EVE. Get your feet back under you, without urgency, or worrying about Omega, or ISK. Find an activity you enjoy. Checkout various streams for ideas. Find people you enjoy playing with.
Then, after you resettle into the game. Your old account becomes an asset. Something to look forward to. And no longer a headache waiting to happen.
Consider this, and hopefully suggest it the next time you run into a returning player.
