Intro

The first tool for navigating wormholes in EVE Online was Eve W-Space, developed in 2015. Unfortunately, the project was abandoned after eight years. In 2017, a new open-source project called Pathfinder emerged.

About Pathfinder

Pathfinder is a free, open-source wormhole mapping tool that enables players to share data about wormhole connections and intel. While individuals could use paper notepads to track their journeys, Pathfinder’s central feature allows for the controlled sharing of travel data among friends, corp mates, or alliance members.

Ways to use it

Pathfinder can be operated on-premises, meaning it can run on your own server - whether that’s a local server, a virtual machine, or a cloud solution. Alternatively, you can utilize free community servers. Here are the three most popular ones:

My general recommendation: for small corps or solo players, using Pathfinder as a service should be safe. However, larger alliances or those making significant strategic moves should consider hosting their own server to ensure data privacy.

How-to

For a detailed guide on using Pathfinder, check EVE UNI Guide as it works for any Pathfinder V.2.0 edition, not just their service EVE UNI Mapper - EVE University Wiki

###
Pathfinder 101 Once you are connected and running eve the game is autotracking. If you Jumpclone to Jita, Pathfinder assumes you have WH to Jita. Same if you use Zarzakh. You may wanto to delete these connections <3

  1. At the top left corner of the tile, the systems type code is listed, this can be C1 though to C6, or H for Highsec, L for Lowsec, or 0.0 for Nullsec. The systems name is present to the right of the type code.

  2. Each wormhole system contains a set of "static" wormholes that will always be present, in this case the pictured C3 has a static Lowsec connection. You can hover your mouse over each static connection to find out more information about it, such as its WH code, mass and lifetime.

  3. + 4.

  4. At the bottom of the tile a friendly corp or alliance member will be listed if there is at least 1 member in the system; Similarly at the top of the tile, the number of corp or alliance members currently present is listed as well as an arrow (up or down) signifying if the amount has increased or decreased.

  5. Each system is connected either by gates or wormholes, and each wormhole can have several characteristics. Connections can display a size limit, such as the pictured L & S that describes the maximum size of ships that can go though the connection. Connections can also appear pink, to signify that they are 'EOL' (or 'approaching the end of their natural lifetime', meaning they have less then 4 hours remaining). The characteristics of the connection can be set by right clicking the connection.

  6. System tiles can also have a colored border, each color has meaning. Blue means friendly, Red means hostile, yellow means occupied.

  7. At the top right of each tile there is a downward chevron, you can hover over it to expand the full list of friendly players that are in that system; provided they are also logged into pathfinder.

Good to know

  •
You may want to run your "own" version instead giving third party free intel.

  • It helps on a visual level, but without bookmarks you are lost.

  • Mass tracking only shows the logged ones, third party peeps is not covered.

Nice to have

Some nice little feature which are already build into pathfinder.

  • Thera Mapping

- Route to "major" trade hubs

Enables you to visualize the route and jumps needed to do your logistics, Infill or Exfill.

  • Stations and Structure inline(458x238):

Allows you to add strcutures of interst for further tracking.

  • Zkillboard Overview

Did the pipe got hot? Is there something which needs some hugging delivered?

The Feed from ZK will always keep you up-2-date.

Although there's already detailed information submitted about the tool, seeing it in action is invaluable. For this, I highly recommend this excellent video tutorial by Khagah, a seasoned expert in wormhole navigation. This is his second edition of the tool overview, offering deeper insights and practical demonstrations.

There are a lot of complicated answers here but I am going to keep this simple.

Essentially Pathfinder is V.2 of another App, Pathfinder is essentially the only visual spreadsheet that allows Wormhole Pilots in corporations/Alliances to share connections/routes in and out of Wormhole space.

That is the short version of what Pathfinder is. Wormhole connections change all the time i.e wormholes from high sec to Wormhole space and wormhole to wormhole, so this app tracks this. Also shows wormhole effects etc.

Afraid not this time. You gave a nice overview of what Pathfinder is, but take another look at the bounty description - we were looking for advice on how to use it effectively✌️
