June has been relatively quiet on the global combat scene in EVE Online. My guess is that this is related to the release of the Equinox expansion and its new space structures, which enhance nullsec planetary interaction (PI), passive mining, and sovereignty mechanics. Everyone seems to be figuring out how these changes work. I hope that once players realize that not all systems and their resources are created equal, they will start targeting each other's assets ;)

Another factor to consider is the smaller lowsec and wormhole space corporations. These groups are now losing the resource race due to the patch changes and might join or form new alliances, which again - could mean more aggressive moves and bigger explosions.

On the 26th, there was a significant setup for a large fight. Pandemic Horde anchored a Fortizar in the EX6-AO system to provoke The Imperium. The Imperium responded with a supercapital fleet supported by a battleship core. Reports indicated that both the PanFam and Winter Coalitions formed fleets to defend their structure as the timer wore out, yet they did not show up on the battlefield. Some agents state that the Fortizar wasn't necessary or worth the trouble, while other sources suggest that Horde was aware of the opposing supercapital fleet and was not ready to field an adequate response.

Ultimately, the Citadel was cleared by The Imperium forces. Unfortunately, there is no killmail for analytical purposes, aside from several videos and streams of the Citadel bashing.

In the following days, several small conflicts occurred around POS and Citadel structures. The most notable was a clash resulting in combined losses worth 157 billion ISK.

  • Location: EX6-AO (-0.5 Catch)

  • Lost: 157.0 billion ISK

  • Pilots involved: 1,391

  • Killmails: 627

  • The Imperium: 910 ships

  • PanFam: 470 ships

Battle report:

The outcome favored The Imperium. Despite losing three T1 dreadnoughts, they traded them for nearly twice the ISK value. The main loss for Pandemic was 19 expensively fitted Nightmares.

We can expect more intense combat in the coming weeks as players gain more data and knowledge about the new expansion.
