By now you've probably already seen that Farming Sim 25 sold two million copies in its first week (a 33% improvement on FS22, which 'only' managed 1.5m in the same time frame), but here are a few more stats to put that achievement into context:
That performance made it the second-best-selling game on Steam last week, outstripped only by perennial behemoth Counter-Strike 2
Over the weekend, FS25's concurrent Steam players peaked at 136,000. The Gamer pulled some stats: that number smashes FS22's all-time peak (105,000), as well as that of Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero (123,000), Dragon Age: Veilguard (89,000, though many more will be on console), XCOM 2, Dark Souls 3, and Borderlands 2, and makes it the 107th-highest-played game of all time.
Around the same time, Remedy announced that Alan Wake 2, which released in October 2023, had sold 1.8 million copies. No knock on Alan Wake 2 - it's a fantastic game that many agree is at the cutting edge of survival horror and really should be selling more - but this means FS25 sold more in a week than it did in over a year.
All in all, a pretty blinding performance for a game that's only just getting started and, despite the series having been a bona fide phenomenon for several years now, somehow still doesn't get the media coverage you'd think it would from its popularity.
Is it at all surprising to you to see the context around FS25's amazing launch? How are you all finding it as we enter its second weekend?
