Well, an obvious one would be Edgerunners if you haven't seen it already, heard nothing but good things about it. It's on my "to watch" list.

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

I haven't heard of Edgerunners before.

CelestialFlea's avatar

It's an anime based on the Cyberpunk 2077 world, there's even a secret clip of it in 2077 itself involving a mini quest. But I won't give spoilers to it, also little references to it hidden elsewhere that were fun to find.

It brought in huge popularity to the game with people wanting to try it after watching the anime. If you liked the game world/aesthetics then you'll probably like Edgerunners. Haven't seen it myself yet, but I will get to it eventually!

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

ah it's on Netflix I tend to watch the majority of Anime on Crunchyroll so that's probably why I hadn't seen much about it before.

Makster's avatar

I was looking for this recommendation along with JoJo

I still need to watch or read this one, I love the art of Kentaro Miura, it is so sad that he passed away before finish his work.

Dears
Elfen Lied
Full Metal Panic
Genshiken
Golden Boy

Kane Carnifex's avatar

You already deeply infected by watching Elfen Lied....

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

It's been a while since I watched Elfen Lied

Lanah Tyra's avatar

This is a very good list with some classic must see on it!

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

Indeed its just finding the right place to watch them.

Lanah Tyra's avatar

Sadly I wouldn't know that, because back home these were only available from sources we shouldn't be talking about :D

Kane Carnifex's avatar

We could bomb him with pure 80-90 classisc :P

The Vision of Escaflowne
Trigun (is on Netflix)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (also on netflix)

But the list above keeps you up for quite some time.
Once you are back you can check out the whole horizon of the anime spectrum of Isekais.

Lanah Tyra's avatar

Hello fellow mecha lover :D

Soukyuu no Fafner (Fafner in the Azure)

Gundam Wing (best to start with and then all the rest)

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

I don't think I have seen much anime from that time period.

JB

Great list, thanks for this! Don't get a huge amount of TV time but love exploring new (to me) anime when I can. From what youve listed, any good suggestions/favourites to start with?

Kane Carnifex's avatar

Alltime Fav, owning the DVD, nobody else than:

Golden Boy

Alternative since i don´t know you i have suprise egg for you :)

Full Metal PanicAnd

They have 3 seasons, first is balanced, second is super serious and the third is Fumoffu.
But if you love the first one, the second goes throug and the third one will try to kill you by laugh.

Last Exile
Steampunk, Flying "Battleships" and i loved the Soundtrack.

and another direction is:

Air Gears
You name it, Rollerscates with motor and "skills"
Kind of underground super sport for "kids".

And since autoplay knows me.. and the good stuff is allways forgotten :P

I always recommend comedy anime, they're easier to like, especially when you're just starting out in the anime universe. That's why I think One Punch Man would be a good choice! It tells the story of a guy who has trained so hard that he has become the strongest hero in the universe and only works as a hero as a hobby, since there is no longer any difficulty for him. It's all told in a comical and very funny way, and I highly recommend it to anyone!

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

You are right One Punch Man is a good anime I only just recently watched that one.

Makster's avatar

ngl I think OPM is good but is also a one-note joke. Like Saitama is easily the least interesting character compared to the other heroes like King.

But the animation (at least in season 1) is GOAT-like

Makster's avatar

ngl if I had to recommend an anime I'd go for something low stakes and carefree

Things like Azumanga Daioh or Lucky Star. They're slice of life high school anime that follow a group of girls just going about their everyday. Sounds kinda boring but the character design, Voice work, and jokes makes it really charming and carefree (taking you back to your own school days).
IIRC they're not sexualised and if it is, it is often for a quick gag and then swiftly moved on. If you prefer your humour a bit more surreal and non-sensical then I'd recommend Nichijou. Again slice of life high school but way more gag filled. If you're unsure then YT some clips and you'll see how weird and wacky it can be

TheGreatestBanana12's avatar

I'm fine with watching any type of anime it doesn't all have to be action based.

Sturmer's avatar

Anything Miyazaki, including early TV shows like Lupin, Future Boy Conan and Nadia

Juuni's avatar

I don't know your particular genre but I will always recommend Nichijou to anybody that'll listen to me. :)

Always nice to see a person of culture. That’s a gem.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations

Ok i had a period of anime binging years ago and then i stopped, however recently me and my othet half watched a seried called Delicious in Dungeon and i have to say that it is a fun and entertaining anime. It gets a bit darker and serious later in the series but it has plenty of light hearted humour and god i hope they release an actual recipe book for the meals in the series cause weirdly enough they do look appetising :)
