So when Stephanie Meyer wrote the Twilight series and signed over rights to film, none of that money went to the real-world tribe she references, Quileute. And let's just dispense with the Twilight hate up at the top, yes, I know... It's trash, but [Oscar the Grouch voice] it's my trash and I like it. Anyway, so the Quileute are a big part of the story in the Twilight series, albeit a fictionalized version of them. Did they get any money off the cash cow that was the sparkling vampire toxic age-gap so wide even Leonardo DiCaprio was blushing? No. To correct this, fans have been running an annual donation drive to support the tribe's initiatives through their official website. This is the fourth year they've done this and it fills my heart with joy. If you happen to want to get in on donating to the cause, you can do so here.
But it got me thinking, what are some other amazing ways fans of film and television have gotten together to do some good for folks?
