I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off (the) shoulder of Orion I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.
I was reading the other day that that monologue was scripted to be much longer with Batty recalling more incidents, but Rutger Hauer deliberately cut it down. In the end Ridley Scott agreed. I think it gives so much more emphasis on the central part - "like tears in rain" normalising robots having feelings that generate tears. Just absolutely bloody exquisite cinema and story.
