As well as paying our community members fairly for the contributions you make to the platform, we also want to make sure that everyone is recognised properly within their communities.
To do this, we’ve created a number of systems on Just About that help you recognise other members' content, and be recognised yourself for your own efforts.
Let's take a look at how our recognition system works during Beta. We’ll be building on these foundations throughout the Beta phase and beyond using your feedback.
Features are subject to change, and it may be necessary to reset or tweak profile progress as we balance the platform and enter new testing phases.
Please do make use of these features whenever you can, and share your feedback in our Just About community space so we can keep improving them.
Using reactions on Just About
For the Beta release of Just About, we have six reactions that you can use to show your appreciation for someone’s post or comment. You can think of our reaction system as a more nuanced take on the upvote/downvote systems you might have seen elsewhere.
👍- Like: A straightforward signal to say 'I like this' and the default reaction when you simply click the React button. Hover over it to use one of the more nuanced reactions below.
⭐ - Excellent: Use this if someone makes a great point, posts impressive content, or provides other useful contributions to a discussion.
✌️- Respect: The Respect reaction is for respectful de-escalation of a conversation or interaction.
🤝 - Helpful: A way of recognising or saying thank you to a particularly helpful or welcoming community member.
❤️ - Love: Used to highlight posts or comments that you... y'know.
😂 - Funny: For anything that's made you laugh or brightened your day.
Using these reactions not only helps you show your appreciation for someone else’s content, it also helps the team at Just About highlight outstanding content based on how people are reacting to it, and it's one of the main metrics behind the issue of organic rewards.
As your posts receive reactions, you'll also unlock badges to display against your profile.
Each of the five reactions has four badges to unlock:
Badge | Total Reactions Required |
---|---|
Basic | 5 |
Bronze | 15 |
Silver | 30 |
Gold | 50 |
Levelling up your profile
Badges are just one way we recognise members who create great content for their communities.
For each reaction you receive, you'll also accumulate a point which goes towards levelling up your profile.
When you hit new milestones, your profile level (in the top-right) will increase. This will, over time, allow you to unlock new badges, site functionality, and other rewards.
Here are the points thresholds you need to reach to level up:
Level | Points Threshold |
---|---|
Level 1 | 0-200 |
Level 2 | 201-862 |
Level 3 | 863-1525 |
Level 4 | 1526-2188 |
Level 5 | 2189-2849 |
Level 6 | 2850 |
If you see a member with a high profile rank, you can take this as a good sign that they have a history of posting great or positive content, as recognised by the community.
As with all features on Just About, we’ll be tweaking the values of our badge and levelling systems on an ongoing basis. It’ll take a little bit of number-crunching in collaboration with our communities to get the rewards system feeling just right.
These features are very much a work-in-progress at this stage, so we’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can improve them, and make Just About a more rewarding place to be.
You can share any thoughts you have in this article’s comments, or in a discussion thread over at our Just About community home.
