I've spotted something this morning that I've not seen reported. If I go from discussion to discussion using the What's Happening bar, the article I move to has the replies from the previous discussion. If I then move to another discussion from that bar it corrects itself, but will then happen again on the next move. I have not seen this behaviour when entering discussions from the main feed.

I'm on a desktop PC, Windows 11, Firefox 114.0.2 (64-bit)

And here's a couple of screenshots of what it looks like

We're all getting this!

On it...

Linked App Connectors (https://alpha.justabout.com/settings/connected) aren't working overall for Tiktok, Twitch, Youtube and Twitter (not sure about Paypal) When clicking "connect" it redirects to error page"

Below is screenshot of Tiktok error. All other applications present something similar.

Text editor Overrides Spellcheck

OS: Windows 11 (Desktop)

Browser: Chrome Description - In the text editor, when a misspelling is detected by chrome and the correct version clicked from the available options, this is ignored by the editor.

Tested this on numerous threads and can replicate every time.

Polls - After voting once, the interface is still active and allows you to vote again, however any change of vote is not reflected in the results.

Expected behavioiur :

  1. Changing my vote to a diffferent option should be reflected in the results (but not a duplicate vote for the same answer)

  2. The poll should no longer prompt me to select and submit my vote, showing only the results as I have already voted.

Essential info:

  1. OS: Windows 11

  2. Browser: Brave with shields down for the domain (so all normal cookies allowed etc)

Mark's avatar

Thanks Dave, this has been logged.

I've tried to replicate this on a couple of iOS devices (Chrome + Safari).

In both cases, I was unable to change my vote (I wasn't able to add a duplicate vote on the same device.)

Mark's avatar

In the last few moments, our team have just put an update in which should have fixed that for you.

Try again and let me know how you get on.

Dave's avatar

I went in and it had an undo vote button now but no results visible. I then selected undo vote, this did undo my vote (you can see the vote count went down) but it changed to having a view votes/hide votes button instead of being able to vote again. May just be because I voted before the change and any brand new vote by a new user picking up the new process flow it will work fine as a guess.

After clicking undo:

Mark's avatar

Cheers - we're taking a look.

Mark's avatar

We've updated the platform in the last few minutes, including a fix for Polls - see the changelog here.

Let me know if you have anymore issues and I'll pass the info over to the tech team straight away.

Dave's avatar

So in terms of polls there is a new issue I've spotted:

This is the view on my main homepage view and on the community feed page where we can see it says there is 1 vote:

If on this main homepage feed view I vote, we can see it says I voted but nothing has actually happened, it still says there is only 1 vote and gives me the option to undo my vote (which isn't showing in the results):

Now to take it further if I click on the post and load into the url:

https://alpha.justabout.com/just-about/how-do-you-see-yourself-using-just-about

My previous vote is now being displayed but also we see there have actually been 7 votes not 1 and all these 7 votes results are displayed:

Windows 11, Brave (shields down)

Mark's avatar

Thanks Dave, we've spotted this one too.

We're taking a look - keep sharing anything you see that doesn't look right!

Dave's avatar

I think I'm about done now lol. Can't imagine I will come across anything else! I've reported some things that may not be bugs as such like you say on the search one, but thought it better to keep them in one place rather than new posts.

Philip's avatar

I'm able to post images now, but when I went to the main feed to see my post it wasn't showing the image there, but it appeared when I clicked in.

Also it still sometimes drops off the last word I wrote.

Mark's avatar

when I went to the main feed to see my post it wasn’t showing the image there, but it appeared when I clicked in.

Thanks Philip - this has been logged.

Similar to what you described, when I viewed your 'pic test' discussion I also saw a grey box until i clicked the image - nice pic btw.

Mark's avatar

Also it still sometimes drops off the last word I wrote.

Just to confirm, if you type out a sentence, sometimes the published post is intermittently missing the last word that you typed?

This has been logged, but to help us out a little more, which device/browser are you using when this happens?

Philip's avatar

Using the search, I see that it displays search results after I finish typing (but it takes a second or two). I thought it wasn't working as I typed in my search term and then pressed the 'enter' button and no results showed.

Is it cancelling my search when I press 'enter' (or the equivalent arrow on my phone keyboard)

Mark's avatar

I typed in my search term and then pressed the “enter” button and no results showed.

I see what you mean.

Would you expect the search to open a new page with results (similar to google)?

Philip's avatar

Yeah that's what I was expecting initially

Mark's avatar

Cool - this isn't a bug as such, but I've logged it.

Lots of features across the platform are going to be further developed, feedback like this is really helpful.

Dave's avatar

Kind of agree with this. Went searching for a particular post, typed the search in and pressed enter, wondered why nothing happened then remembered this post so redid it without pressing enter. A search result page feels required to me rather than just the drop down list, also a filter to choose new posts only, comment only etc rather than everything in the list. Assume this is all planned already anyway though.

Dave's avatar

Bit of a wierd one. Not sure if anyone else can confirm if they are getting this behaviour or not on an android device, if people can test it.

Device info: android (13) Samsung one ui v 5.1 , galaxy fold 4 using standard chrome browser (also happens in brave), using front screen or unfolded big screen.

I am unable to post a reply to the main post or to someone elses comment on a post. when trying to reply, the post reply button is greyed out. See in this example screenshot. On my windows 11 pc using any browser I can reply to posts and post comments no problem and the post reply button is NOT greyed out.

Screenshot showing the issue:

Dave's avatar

Testing further, when editing a reply on android that I previously submitted on pc chrome (as I can't do it on android) as above, I can make the changes that I want and it lets me click save. I get a pop up saying the changes have been saved. However the edits are not actually reflected in the post. I refreshed the page and still no changes shown. Checked on my pc and the edits submitted on my android mobile are not reflected there either. When I edit and save on PC it works fine and the edit changes are reflected on all devices. Assume this is the same cause as the greyed out post reply button and it seems to impact reply functionality in general on android chrome/chromium based browsers (or it's some thing going on on my device specifically).

I've checked my android chrome and I don't have any non default privacy/cookie settings configured or anything, no vpn, ad blocker or ad blocking DNS servers being used etc, so it's just standard android setiings and using default android chrome.

Mark's avatar

I haven't been able to replicate this on my iOS device, but I've logged it and the team will take a look.

Thanks for all the info, it's really useful.

Dave's avatar

Little bit more info. I have downloaded firefox (uses a different rendering engine) on my android phone. After typing a few words the post reply button lights up and works fine ,( on chrome or brave this never happens no matter how much you type). I have posted this from android firefox and now going to try and edit it also in Firefox android.

Edit: edited post using firefox android

Dave's avatar

Sorry, one more update. I've discovered a fix for the reply button (not sure about edits not saving). The post reply button lights up if you select one of the options along the top such as bold or italics. As soon as you click any of these formatting options the post reply is clickable. I can then unselect the formatting and the button remains active. Wherever else I click on the page be it inside or outside the text box, closing the keyboard down etc, the button does not light up for use.

Hope that helps diagnose it

Mark's avatar

This is great - thanks Dave.

Earnings page displays incorrectly and has a broken navigation bar:

Formatted correctly when on saved (or mentions, posts, notifications):

Visiting earnings as below, seems to be in dark mode, as well as the navigation buttons no longer being clickable + only the icons now show and not the text we previously had next to each of these tabbed buttons:

This may only be if you have earnings to display, I don't recall what it looked like when I didn't have any.

Screenshots show Windows 11, Browser: Brave (shields down, no blocking of anything). Tested on Galaxy Fold 4, android 13, chrome with the same results.

Mark's avatar

I'm seeing the same thing on an iOS device - this has been logged.

Dave's avatar

Submit a copyright claim form page displays incorrectly:

Noone has probably visited this page because it is really boring

https://alpha.justabout.com/p/copyright

However the page is all messed up with a black background with black text. Occurs on chrome and brave on both windows and android.

Highlighted a bit of text to show the text is there, just blended into the background colour.

Mark's avatar

Thanks Dave - both of these have been logged.

We recently improved some design elements of the platform and it looks like we've overlooked these pages.

Dave's avatar

Mobile only - Drop down navigation bar on notifications, posts etc pages is cut off in certain scenarios:

I have many notifications so the central white area listing them all on this view is quite long and so able to display the full drop down menu when expanded:

https://alpha.justabout.com/activity

I don't have any saved posts at the url below so the white page area is quite small:

https://alpha.justabout.com/activity/saved

on https://alpha.justabout.com/activity/saved with this "nothing to see here" content up, if I click the drop down menu to expanded and view all the options, there is not enough page for the expanded menu to be displayed, so the top and bottom are cut off.

The same issue occurs on the mentions page because that also has the small white box with "nothing to see here" in it for me at the moment, meaning there is not enough white box page area for the menu to display into. If I had a few mentions like I do in the notifications page, the page would be longer and the menu would fit. So the problem is limited to users who don't have anything to display on these various pages and on mobile only as this menu bar is of a different design on desktop.

Samsung galaxy fold 4, android 13, chrome browser, same behaviour in brave browser as well.

Mark's avatar

I don’t have any saved posts at the url below so the white page area is quite small:

Hi Dave

Could you let me know if the dropdown menu still cuts off for you?

Dave's avatar

yeah it started working properly a few days ago cheers.

Just to clarify I raised all these in the spirit of being part of an alpha test and assuming you wanted all bugs reporting we come across. Not trying to criticise the site/everyone's work. I think it's great and loving it so far.

Mark's avatar

I raised all these in the spirit of being part of an alpha test and assuming you wanted all bugs reporting we come across.

You're absolutely doing the right thing.

The contribution from you (and all our Alpha testers) has been great - it's exactly what we'd hoped for.

We're all committed to developing the platform with our members - not telling you how it's going to be - so we love to hear what everyone has to say, and keep improving.

Mobile only - "Just about" header text to the left of new and also the logo above is not a link, just text that highlights when clicked:

It is standard and expected behaviour that when clicking a website names header logo image or text name that this is link that will quickly navigate you back to the homepage. On desktop clicking the "just about" logo text it does do this, but on mobile it's just text and is not a link.

Samsung galaxy fold 4, android 13 in chrome and brave.

Dave's avatar

I get the home button is right there staring at me on the breadcrumb trail, but I keep clicking the just about text out of habit lol.

Mark's avatar

when clicking a website names header logo image or text name that this is link that will quickly navigate you back to the homepage

I see what you're saying - I'll loop in the design team too.

When i look at my mobile (iPhone SE), I see our logo - which is clickable and takes me back to our homepage.

In this case, the 'Just About' text, is the name of the community and not the company name - if you know what i mean.

Mark's avatar

Update: This logo dropping off is likely related to screen size/ratio, as we prioritise other features e.g. notifications.

The good news is that we have some more design improvements in the pipeline - including a sticky mobile menu - which will help.

Dave's avatar

Ah yeah you are right! If I open it up to the unfolded screen the logo you showed in your screenshot is there. Apologies, I should have checked that. The width of this fold 4 front screen is smaller than a normal device (It's marginally smaller than an iphone mini width).

(It was a grade B refurb by the way for a third of the new price, I didn't buy an £1800 new one...)

Mark's avatar

This bounty has closed and the rewards have been shared. 🎉

Mobile only: titles of posts on homepage/community feeds are cut off after x number of characters depending on screen width.

The titles of each post on mobile get cut off after a certain point. I would expect the main content below the title to do this but not the title itself. I don't think I have ever come across a title of a story on a main page not being displayed in full before. When coming across long titles/headline it makes it difficult to understand what the post is about without clicking into it.

Expected behaviour would be the title is displayed in full and the secondary text below it only, is cut of with the ...

<moderation note: removed supporting image>

Galaxy fold 4 front screen (which is almost identical screen width screen to a iphone 12/13 mini), android 13, brave browser.

Rupert's avatar

I concur! (We may need to bring the font size down on mobile accordingly depending on how big those headlines could end up...)

Enabling a link preview overtakes text in a post.

OS: Windows 10 (Desktop) Browser: Firefox Monitor resolution: 3840 x 2160

Description - I edited this post to include a link to the relevant topic that was originally missing. It automatically generated a preview, but this box dominated the text so it was no longer visible. After submitting the changes, all that was live on the post was a giant preview box. Editing the post once again to remove the preview fixed this, as the text reappeared.
