It is an X. Always called it X, because it is faster to say than cross

I call it the rage button, normally connected with life and death situations which end up with a controller flying across the room.

Everyone knows it's the Cloud you're up / Aerith we need some healing please button.

For context in Final Fantasy you use X to open the command menu where you can issue action commands to your party)

Definitely X, it never even occurred to me to call it cross!

So X its just a slang. Originally its a ばつ or batsu, which translates to cross in a context of "no, wrong". In some other languages which I'm familiar with it also called a cross, just like O called a circle, not O or zero.

Im pretty sure it's called the cross button but I call it the x button, cause that just has a nice ring to it. Whereas saying the cross button is kinda like a mouthful at times

I always called it the ‘X’ button. But I do remember in the old days of cheat codes, you’d often see it written down as ‘cross’. Makes sense I suppose as all the other buttons are shapes and not letters (overlooking the shoulder buttons of course).
