When it comes to how they ask members to behave, social platforms have a lot of rules, and they vary more than you might think.
If a member messes up and falls short of the code of conduct, a warning from a moderator doesn’t always mean they’re labelled a disturber of the peace. Rather it’s meant to teach us how to be a part of the community.
How can moderators offer this close contact as platforms grow? Facebook is taking a novel approach:
when a creator violates our Community Standards for the first time, they will receive a notification to complete an in-app educational training about the policy they violated. Upon completion, their warning will be removed from their record and if they avoid another violation for one year, they can participate in the “remove your warning” experience again.
What do you think of this approach? How do you think Just About handles issues like this? What do you wish you knew when you first joined us, and are there parts of our Code of Conduct that could be made clearer? Let us know in the comments!
