Hey Konquest, it depends on the context really.

We ask ourselves a few questions when we consider if something is suitable for our platform. These include questions:

  1. What does the content include? - See the Community Code of Conduct for the main categories.

    1. Harmful activity, including physical, sexual, psychological, and symbolic harm

    2. Illegal or deceptive activity, including inappropriate accessing or distribution of information and manipulation or misrepresentation

  2. Does it inflict or depict harm?

    1. Inflict - does the content cause harm to anyone?

    2. Depict - does the content show harm being caused to anyone?

  3. Is that harm actual, implied, encouraged, or glorified?

    1. Actual - does the content directly show past or present harm or cause harm?

    2. Implied - is the harm conveyed indirectly yet still makes the harm known?

    3. Encouraged - does the content encourage others to cause or show harm to anyone?

    4. Glorified - does the content celebrate the act of causing or showing harm to anyone?

Explicit language isn't necessarily harmful, but we have included it in this section of our Community Code of Conduct: Harmful activity - psychological harm - extreme, excessive, or continuous profanity.

The occasional swear word isn't likely to be an issue, but it becomes a problem when it's too aggressive, too vulgar, and too often.

Hey Boomer, Thank you for clarifying in such depths! It's just something I've always pondered. I almost never have the intention to offend or be aggressive to anyone. I was just wondering if the occassional swear word will get us in trouble :P

No problem at all 🙂 The occasional swear word isn't a problem, but I'd advise members not to include them in discussion titles!

It's also worth considering the tone of the community. For example Sport, Video Games, and Music might be more comfortable with the occasional swear word, but Critter Cafe, Minecraft, and Pokémon might prefer wholesome language 😄

The part about being aggressive or vulgar was in no way directed at you 😅I just wanted to give extra context to help anyone that reads these replies.

No no.. not a problem at all bro.. i didn't assume it was about me :P still Thanks for the clarification! I kinda understand that the Critter Cafe, Minecraft, and Pokémon community might have younger audiences so yeah.
