Thoughts on Taylor Swift's new album: The Tortured Poets Department?
It's been a little over a week since Taylor's latest album had released and apart from topping single day album streams on Spotify, more critical feedback has been mixed to positive.
I shelved my Swifties membership card after the highs of 1989 after seeing the more darker and edgier Taylor was taking her album Reputation. Coming back to her music with this album was a little jarring seeing the American country sweet heart take on a more east coast artsy vibe. But the music was pure Taylor. Nothing seemed out of place as I moved through the album, it sounded like the same artist I fell in love with many years ago during those late night dissertation write ups. Back then I even wrote her in my acknowledgements.
It is a long album. A little too long for my tastes so a lot of songs did blend together so it was difficult to find a place to stop and recollect my thoughts fully.
It's still too soon to see whether any songs will make it into any playlists but there is certainly potential there!
What are JA's thoughts on Taylor's new album?

I think it's like most albums I get, I like 70% of the songs and the rest are just meh with it, but this happens a lot on albums, they create really good songs and I often think they just add songs in, to fill the number required for an album release.
I've only listened to it once, but I'm sad to say I found it really boring. Every song seemed to be the same mid-tempo spacy sad Taylor thing, that is fine in isolation, but listening to several tracks of it in a row was a real drag.
If Swifties love it then I'm happy for them, but personally I'll be going back to 1989 and Reputation when I feel in need to a Taylor fix
I think the latest new album is quite meh, as I don't find anything new in album itself. But as someone who likes music and listen to a lot of songs, I just choose and listen to the songs I want only. Just an honest opinion.
I have a similar experience to most on here and talked to my swiftie friend about it the other day. We both felt it was a tad boring, while full of nice songs with good lyrics. I had one stand out song personally and the rest I will give another go to see if anything else makes it to the favourite playlist.
My swiftie friend said it was a nice album reminiscent of the folklore one, which I personally don’t know. I found more interesting songs on the new Beyoncé album to be fair.
