I’m a fan of Metal Core music, and these’re my favorite songs from my favorite bands.

The past two years have been a tough time for me, I’ve been dealing with negative emotion from time to time. When I’m depressed, I always find comfort in those songs.

But despite of emotional factors, those songs are all well-composed pieces of art. And those bands are really amazing, especially Imminence, they’re my all time favorite.

Some brazilian music for you all.

Even in Brazil most of this selection isn't that popular, but the lyrics of each songs are a delight to me, I can relate to all of them.

Tim Maia, Boogarins, Djavan, Tom Ze and Sabotage are known internacionally, in some way.

The others, are local bands. I love every music on this selection because each one changed my mind about several thoughts or ideas, and made me a better person, I think.

I believe that who people are now is in large part informed by the journey they've taken to get to this point. As such, my 10 songs are an attempt to capture that journey. For my own privacy, I won't outline the specifics of what each song represents, but I think the songs tell a compelling story when put together.

It's no easy task to choose ten songs that truly represent who you are as a person, but it's worth a try.

These ten songs are about dealing with time, challenges, loss, and what really matters. They remind me that life is fragile, but it's about staying strong, sticking by people, and starting fresh when needed.

1. Rise Up High!

5. Show - Ado

6. Show - TeddyLoid Remix - Ado, TeddyLoid

7. Charlotte - WEDNESDAY CAMPANELLA

Japanese music is nice!

jd-writes.com's avatar
  1. InMe - Faster the Chase

  2. Live - The Dolphin's Cry

  3. Lifehouse - You and Me

  4. Linkin Park - A Place For My Head

  5. Rise Against - Swing Life Away

  6. Pillar - Frontline

  7. Thrice - Artist in the Ambulance

  8. Offspring - Come Out Swinging

  9. Jimmy Eats World - Coffee and Cigarettes

  10. Three Doors Down - Here Without You

It was agony trimming this down to just ten songs, but these are what I settled on. Reasoning, in order: first real rock song I ever loved (and still my favorite ever song), a song I spent literally years looking for (searching for 'Live music' did not yield useful results back in the day) and stumbled across in a random mall in another country, my wedding song/first dance, the best LP song, the song that introduced me to Rise Against (one of my favorite bands), a song that symbolises my most important friendships, a song that the aforementioned friends used to sing/scream at the top of their lungs together to, the best Offspring song, a song that captures the essence of a 7 week backpacking trip across South America, and my favorite Three Doors Down song (and one of the only songs that I can play (badly) on guitar.

For my playlist, I've arranged them in chronological order of when I was introduced to them. I'll explain the choices breifly under each song

https://www.youtube.com/embed/ESilvOS2O9k?feature=oembed

My mom would play classical music on car rides, and the way this one builds to such a crescendo of despair has always given me goosebumps.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/CsmlpLuVBZg?feature=oembed

My oldest brother was really into japanese media when we first got access to the internet. This artist, in all his cheesiness, was burnt onto a few CD's and played repeatedly.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/BgvBWR0Tr7I?feature=oembed

Morphine is one of those once-of-a-kind bands. The 2-string bass played with a slide, and a bari sax player who occasionally would play 2 at once. Really made me realize a band doesnt have to be two guitars, singer, bass, and drummer.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/keRMhpjjn_U?feature=oembed

Megadeth is another band my brother would play when I was young. I've since grown up and learned aa few of their songs on guitar. Love Dave's play style.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/K-NorCIKfak?feature=oembed

This is where I started lookng for my own identity in music. I had heard Radiohead before, but not like this.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/rKSInoRXHew?feature=oembed

Angsty teen music. To be fair NIN is still one of my faves, but i was especially into them in my late teens, early 20's.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/beN5ep5MrdY?feature=oembed

Here, you can really see I started to naturally find melds of things I already liked. Japanese? Check. Heavy? Check. Kinda weird as hell? Yeah, check.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/M2G9qar-yKw?feature=oembed

Starting to get to more recent years. Been more into easier music. Joywave is severely underappreciated. Just good, catchy, rock music.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/EJDARjzHhZE?feature=oembed

The technical skill of these two is insane. Bought Not Tight on vinyl. Not much to say. Just love them.

https://www.youtube.com/embed/M1T1VWxazC8?feature=oembed

When I heard the singles off this record, I almost immediately preordered it. So glad I did. The placement of this track in the whole composition is so impactful imo. Great record.

Thanks for listening / reading!

Well… so much music, so little time. Every song in this list has a deeply personal meaning. Every song represent a stage in my life, a person I used to know, a dead friend, even my days in college.

  1. Thirteen Autumns and a Widow - Cradle Of Filth (the First Blackmetal song I ever heard from an old time friend who I’m no longer in touch with)

  2. Zombie - The Cranberries (I used to have a friend that we used to hang out to his house, play video games and spend our noons just talking. This was one of his favorite songs. We still talk, 20 years after, but not like those days)

  3. Dies Irae - Devildoll (the favorite album/song of a long parted friend)

  4. Heaven’s a Lie - Lacuna Coil (in the “windows messenger” days, a few of my contacts loved to put the name of the song as an status, only after I heard the album the first time, I did understand why).

  5. Ov Fire and the Void - Behemoth (the first song I ever heard of this band and the one that helped me make most of my friends nowadays)

  6. Entre dos tierras - Heroes del Silencio (I had a friend that used to love the band and sang this song all day. He parted away long ago)

  7. The Night - Disturbed (one night, at kendo practice, someone put a radio with this song, and have stuck with me since)

  8. Here without you - Three Doors Down (imagine being a child and listening to this song for the first time while they used for an Eddy Guerrero Tribute in WWE…)

  9. Amnesia - Tristania (this song gives me peace)

  10. The Falling Star - Therion (Lost a friend because of this song. He believed it was a Christian song).

Top 10 Songs Right Now

These are some of my favorite mellow songs with meaningful lyrics. My current top 10 includes tracks from Indonesia, the UK, and Japan. I’m drawn to songs that resonate deeply through their lyrics, and I love how each of these songs tells a story or shares an emotion in a way that feels truly genuine. If anyone else enjoys this kind of music, I'd be happy to share and talk about our favorite tracks!

I think I like romantic songs too much, hahaha! But that's exactly it, besides being songs I've been listening to for a long time, the quality of their lyrics and all the feeling involved give them an absurd quality, and I just love it!

S

A lot of these songs I've listened to and enjoyed since I was a kid, my dad had a lot of influence on what music I liked growing up. I listen to other genres but this one is mostly just rock.

Attached is my personal playlist curated for this bounty.

First we start of with Justin Biebers Unstable. This song feels very personal to me as I deal with anxiety all the time, then we go to Supernatural. I think just musically it's a great song with Troye and Ari. Hinds Hall 2 is very much an empowering song speaking directly to the leaders of today.

I'd done a 10 track playlist for an online friend years ago and it was such a great way to get a top level look at what they were into so I love this bounty!

I've done a brand new one for this though. It's tough to keep off stuff like The Clash, We Are Scientists and Spose but for a "getting to know me" this is as good an insight as any.

I will point out that One Vision was a no brainer. Queen are the one band my family all agree on and to make it even better, it was released the day I was born. The Clash also had an album released on my birthday but... it's the "Cut The Crap" album and they most certainly did not cut the crap on that album.

It’s a complicated time for me, so the music in my playlist ranges from A to Z. This playlist is like a mood playbook - swipe to a new track, and a universe of sound unfolds. Despite the wide variety of genres, all the tracks are fast-paced, reflecting my life right now, where I need to keep moving and act quickly.

It's a mixture of Japanese anime music and western music to represent the fact that I'm a first generation immigrant from the east transplanted into the west. I grew up thinking listening to the melodies of Red Hot Chili Pepperes would make me blend in and not be made fun of when pop music was Boy Bands, Spice Girls and Oasis were creating more controversy than music.

A few important songs in my life on this list are:

From the Start by Laufey
My partner actually got me into this artist and while I would never have picked out this chill bedroom Jazz artist, it made her so happy when I got tickets for our Valentine's gift this year in Manchester that it became one of our favourite memories

She Moves in Her Own Way The Kooks
I feel this sorta indie pop was the background to my teenage years just before university. That same poppy acoustic soundtrack the Inbetweeners had (which was broadcasting still) was very formative in those high school years.

キミの記憶 (Memories of You) - Yumi Kawamura
The only videogame song on the list which represents that I'm not really into videogames all that much nowadays but they still play a big role in my life connecting with friends and talking with online fandoms/ discussions. This song plays at the end of Persona 3 and I think this is when my life changed and I stopped playing as many video games (just as I entered university). I did try so much to get back into it but things either didn't grab me as much or there was not that pull it used to have as a child.

Lanah Tyra's avatar

My whole life was about who people think I am and who I truly am? Everyone always just looked at the surface, the image of a good girl I had to keep on because that's what everyone expected me to be. But that's not who I am. Life didn't go easy on me and I had to fight for everything I had. But people never cared about the struggles, they only saw the results and questioned how I got there, or were jealous of what I had achieved without realising how much those achievements cost me.

So these songs are a representation of the rollercoaster of emotions, trusting people and being betrayed by the people I trust. Representation of constantly not being enough or people only wanting the image they have built about me in their mind without wanting to know the real me.

The last song is a fairly new addition to the list, probably where I am right now in this rollercoaster. I look back at the person I once was, at the things which have been taken from me, and I don't know if I should turn back and pick up the pieces or look ahead and accept who I have become after everything I've been through.

Not a very cheerful story, I'm sorry ^^'

It was very difficult to put together a playlist with my top 10, but I did what I could haha

"93 million miles" - This song reminds me a lot of my parents, of home. When I go out to study, it reminds me that I can always come home.

"Warriors" - I think about our daily battles, a line that I really like says that where we are we can't go back.

"All of me" - In honor of my boyfriend, the love of my life.

"Man I feel like a woman" - I love how this song, despite being a bit old, has such power. No inhibitions, today I just want to go out.

"Another Day of Sun" - The title speaks for itself. The melody of the song is surreal and contagious. It makes you want to dance haha. Cheer up for another day of sun!

"João e Maria" - when I hear this song I always remember how good it is to be a child. I feel like I'm traveling back in time.

"Paradise" - I remember the farm, the countryside. We have such a nice little house connected to nature. I think it's paradise there.

"Tente outra vez" - the song is about trying again. Go back, look for your dream, it's still there. Don't give up.

"A Thousand Years" - it reminds me of my sister's wedding, she came in with this song and I cried a lot! I love the lyrics, I really identify with the love she speaks of.

"Believer" - gives me the idea of being a dreamer, of believing.

I'm Brazilian, so I made a point of putting together three songs that reflect Brazil.

(The list is not in order from best to worst, I simply remembered and added them)

  1. "Garota de Ipanema" – João Gilberto e Stan Getz

Nothing better to represent Brazil than bossa nova with its main symbol of Brazilianness.

  2. "Mas, Que Nada!" – Jorge Ben Jor

A union of samba, rock and a lot of BRAZIL, extremely danceable .

  3. "Ideologia" – Cazuza

It is important to understand the context of the time, we were living in a political moment where young people needed a direction, and one of the great influencers decided to represent this restlessness through a song.

  4. "Yellow" – Coldplay

Yellow mixes simplicity with “sadness”, extremely intimate music, ideal both for happy moments and for moments when I needed to be welcomed by some sound.

  5. "Warriors" – Imagine Dragons

As well as being a very impactful song sonically, I feel that listening to it I'm capable of anything!

  6. "I'm Still Standing" – Elton John

Simply a classic! It inspires freedom, long live our Sir Elton John!

  7. "Bohemian Rhapsody" – Queen

I think it's the greatest rock classic, as well as being a mixture of styles. Simply timeless and perfect.

  8. "House of the Rising Sun" – The Animals

I remember that I only had to hear it once for it to stick in my mind forever. A mixture of blues, rock and an old-school vibe (even for its time), it really should be here.

  9. "When I Was Your Man" – Bruno Mars

I had to have the new king of pop here, so I chose one that is simply impossible to listen to and not sing along to, but there could be many others here.

  10. "Lonely Day" – System of a Down

The greatest example of how System of a Down can and MUST make different suns (Please do something new again! haha).

I, as a Brazilian, had to share with you a bit of Brazilian music. But I'm not talking about funk, which is a music genre that many Brazilians dislike because it has vulgar and disrespectful lyrics; I'm talking about MPB: the music genre that definitely represents Brazil. Enjoy!
