I need alcohol to do just about anything in public lol

I can understand that, I used to sit in a corner on every event building up the courage by one drink all night to even talk to people.

Do you start pushing people around though? :D

It is not needed, I typically do not drink anything in public. But it's the biggest part of the revenue of the venue owners.

That's why I said I would be willing to pay more for a ticket to have a peaceful experience. In an arena show I always go for seated tickets, but in a small venue I have no choice. My partner struggles to stand through the whole thing as it is, but since we can't even get the healthcare providers to take his condition seriously, we also don't have paperwork for it so no point to apply for access area because most likely it will be rejected.

if you are ready to pay a premium, you can get VIP area tickets, which usually have seats, and are free of completely drunk individuals, or have security guards to purge them away.

Not in the UK...VIP only includes a meet and greet with the band but no special area or seats.

Is alcohol needed for anything at all? Not really.

Ah yes, people can't live without drinking.

Sadly that's true. I like my glass of wine with dinner too. But I don't get this growing culture of having fun means getting wasted.

IMO no. alcohol is not needed for a good time, but for some reason, people feel that you can't "get together" or "go out" without getting smashed, which I have never understood.

Yeah I would actually, reason being I was at a wedding recently I had to drive to so had alcohol free beers all day and still had a blast and got right in about all the fun and dancing!

I'd definitely go to a concert and not drink. I stopped drinking about a year ago (save for a couple of drinks at a wedding) and it's done my mental health the world of good. Though it definitely makes me more aware of those who are hammered at a concert.

I could also do without the beer cups being hurled into the crowd and soaking me! Never nice to get a train home for an hour and a half sweaty and soaked in warm beer.

Though the thing that bugs me even more is the people holding their phones up for pretty much the entire show. As Yellowcard said on tour once "All of the songs you're going to hear tonight already exist a million times on Youtube, no ones going to watch your grainy cell phone footage, so just be in the moment, enjoy the show and stop ruining other people's experience"

I don't drink often even though I love alcohol and I hate buying drinks at venues because they're often overpriced. The idea of going to a sober or dry venue is fine by me with one big caveat: I wouldn't go there if it was a Christian venue-turns-church-on-Sunday type of place. I got nothing against Christianity per se, but I don't want to get preached at.

Actually, given how many people are in recovery in the music scene (fans and musicians), it be kinda cool to have venues where there were only non-alcohol beverages.
