Poseidon, the god of the oceans, has come crashing down like a tsunami in SMITE 2. He was nerfed within days of washing ashore, but he's still a formidable force with his aquatic abilities in mid lane.
However, we need you to teach us how to play Poseidon in SMITE 2. Create a guide detailing his abilities, the best builds to use with him, his best roles, tips and tricks, and anything else pertinent to getting the most out of this trident-wielding Greek legend. The more comprehensive and useful your guide is, the higher your chance of a reward!

Poseidon, the God of the Oceans, is a mage in SMITE 2, renowned for his high burst damage, crowd control, and mobility. His abilities allow him to dominate the battlefield, making him a versatile pick for players who enjoy controlling the game.
Abilities
Passive – Changing Tides Poseidon's abilities build Tide with each use, increasing his movement speed and the damage of his abilities as his Tide meter fills.
1st Ability – Tidal Surge Poseidon summons a wave that travels forward, damaging and pushing back all enemies in its path.
2nd Ability – Trident Upon activation, Poseidon's basic attacks shoot three water bolts in a spread, increasing his attack speed and movement speed for a short duration.
3rd Ability – Whirlpool Creates a vortex at the target location that slows and pulls enemies toward the center, dealing damage over time.
Ultimate – Release the Kraken! Poseidon releases the Kraken at the target location, dealing massive damage and applying crowd control effects to enemies within the area.
Ability Leveling Order
Prioritize leveling Tidal Surge first for wave clear and poke, followed by Whirlpool for crowd control and area damage. Trident can be leveled next to enhance mobility and basic attack damage. Always upgrade Release the Kraken! whenever available to maximize burst potential.
Builds
This was the best build I made for poseidon. With it we have extremely high damage, managing to decimate opponents very easily.
Strengths
High Burst Damage: Poseidon abilities, especially when combined, can quickly eliminate squishy targets.
Crowd Control: Abilities like Whirlpool and Release the Kraken! can disrupt enemy positioning and initiate team fights.
Mobility:Trident increases movement speed, allowing Poseidon to engage or disengage effectively.
Weaknesses
Squishiness: As a mage, Poseidon is vulnerable to burst damage and requires careful positioning.
Skill Dependency: Missing key abilities can significantly reduce his effectiveness in fights.
Tips and Playstyle
Positioning: Maintain a safe distance in team fights, utilizing Whirlpool and Tidal Surge to control enemies from afar.
Combo Execution: Initiate with Whirlpool to slow and group enemies, follow up with Release the Kraken! for burst damage, and finish with Tidal Surge or enhanced basic attacks from Trident.
Tide Management: Keep an eye on your Tide meter; higher Tide levels enhance your abilities' effectiveness.
Objective Control: Use Release the Kraken! to secure objectives like Fire Giant or Gold Fury, as its high damage can outburst enemy attempts.
Poseidon, son of Cronus and Rhea, is the Greek god of the sea, horses, and earthquakes, known as the "Earth-Shaker." With his trident, he commands the ocean's moods, creating both storms and calm. His myths include vying with Athena for Athens and cursing Odysseus. Celebrated in coastal regions, he embodies the sea's dual nature as protector and destroyer.
Passive - Changing Tide: Gains speed and damage with Tide Level, raised by basic attacks and lowered by abilities.
Tidal Surge: Sends a wave to damage and push enemies back, good for clearing and zoning.
Trident: Boosts attack and movement speed, three-shot spread on basic attacks. Use for farming or chasing.
Whirlpool: Cripples and pulls enemies in, dealing damage over time. Use to set up your ultimate.
Release the Kraken: Damages, slows, and stuns in a large area. Center hit for max effect.
Tips
Great combo Whirlpool > Kraken > Tidal Surge > Trident. Stay safe; no escape ability. Focus on power, penetration, and cooldowns. Use abilities to control space and time your ultimate for team fights or objectives.
Poseidon, like other characters, is perhaps the most well-known and each of his abilities is linked to the ocean both visually and in the actual battle action. Although he has been slightly weakened lately, he is still one of the characters who is not the strongest but the most stable during battle. He has the ability to inflict damage, to control certain areas and is very useful if you are looking for a strategy for victory.
Alone he may not be very useful, but together with a well-structured team he can become the spearhead. He can strike both close and far away and the "Trident strike" is his greatest strength because it inflicts damage directly. With other abilities he can inflict damage by area, he can immobilize enemies with the "Whirlpool" ability and can also stun in order to strike while enemies cannot respond.
As for items, I suggest "Chrono's Pendant", Obsidian Shard which are great because they allow him to maximize his attack power and survive in the later stages of the game.
A very useful tip is to always keep mana management high because his abilities require expensive consumption in critical moments.
