Ever since Elon took over twitter, re-named it X, and had almost every bad decision he made on the website published - there has been an influx of twitter/ social media alternatives.
But are we burnt out on social media platforms? I feel that there was a nice eco-system for social media sites
Twitter for text
Instagram for images
Facebook for more personalised feeds of friends and family
(TikTok for short form video content)
I reserve YouTube since it's more a long-form video platform that would take a place of a streaming site like Netflix though I could see it as a social media site if you were a creator. Similarly Discord/WhatsApp aren't social media since they're more an instant messaging client.
There have been some new social media sites that I've been playing around with:
BlueSky - probably the closest to a twitter alternative there is but I think it had missed it's opportunity since it was in invite-only for too long
Airchat - an app where you have to voice your posts rather than typing them out. If anything - the transcription tech on it is incredibly accurate
Does anyone still use social media and which is the newest one you had signed up to? If you haven't signed up to any more - why not?
