The best social platform is a good place where you meet some people in person, you can watch them in the eyes and communicate everything without falling into misunderstandings. Online is easy to fall in them and ruins a conversation. Also facebook could be good before everythings is split across different platforms.

My “perfect” social network would revolve around a lot of the aspects people have already mentioned here:

Privacy and well-being first:

No data collection, monetization, or tracking for ads. Digital wellness features, such as reminders to pause, are integrated to ensure a mindful, healthy experience.

No social pressure:

No visible metrics, like likes, follower counts, or ratios. Interaction is directed to substantive comments and debate, prioritizing content over mere validation.

No manipulative algorithms:

The content is shown in chronological order or arranged to suit the interests of the user at hand, and there are no algorithms that prefer engagement over quality.

I would create a platform that tries to maintain the consumption of videos, from short videos to long videos, but I would try to create forums for discussions about certain content, through communities, that would create interesting debates, so that content creators and consumers of this content could be closer, these consumers would be part of communities not only because of the content creator, but also because of the people in that community that was created around the content creator.

These communities could be similar to those on Reddit.

There would be a ranking of the most watched videos, the most active communities, and the comments with the most likes, so that everyone could participate and be heard.

What bothers me in most of social media is the lack of efficient searching tools and make things easily accessible, almost every one makes things temporary, and it is supposed to be forgotten over time. So one of those things I would focuses on a perfect Social Media Platform would be this, the permanency of things and posts, make everything maintain at least some importance overtime, and one site that would be my inspiration would be the Art Station.

To make this possible the first thing is to make the base of the site where things can be organised in better ways, classified it in a few categories that the user would choose if things are important or not for him, and give the possibility the organize their feed not bay date or numbers of likes, but have freedom to put the things in orders they want. It would be a personal library of thoughts, ideas, art creations, photography accessible to friends or everyone if they like.

The feed/home page would be organised in rows or blocks, for exemple at the left we would have an menu to navigate just like Just About or Twitter, then in the rest we could have three rows, one for photos, other for arts, and other for texts, or even make it customizable. You would be able to show in a row just a kind o art for exemple.

L

Ideally this social media would have opt-in verification without misleading checkmarks or other markers that are merely bought! It would also find a way to crack down on AI accounts that spam, pretend to be people and/or spread misinfo. Above all else, it would do away with ratios, likes, and hopefully the unhealthy chase for validation from these numbers.

My perfect social media platform would focus on genuine connections, meaningful interactions, and community-building rather than the current algorithm-driven, engagement-obsessed models. The feed would be entirely chronological, showing content from people and communities you follow in real-time, without algorithms manipulating what you see. Privacy would be a top priority, with no data tracking or selling—users would have complete control over what they share, and anonymity would be an option.

Communities would be interest-based, bringing together people with shared passions like gaming, photography, or motorsports. Instead of shallow engagement metrics like likes or follower counts, the platform would encourage thoughtful reactions and discussions, rewarding posts that add value. Monetization would rely on community-supported models like optional subscriptions or donations to keep ads off the platform.

There would also be tools to promote healthy usage, like time limits and reminders to take breaks. The platform would include collaborative spaces for projects, built-in moderation tools for positive interactions, and even features to encourage real-life meetups, helping users turn online connections into real-world friendships. The goal is to create a healthier, more authentic social media experience centered around creativity, learning, and genuine engagement.

Don't Treat Yourself As A Product

Social media are important means of communication and social interaction, allowing relatives to communicate with family and friends in real-time, even when they are physically far from each other. If we were to think of a similar concept in the last century, we would view social media as a perfect invention. However, unfortunately, social media have negative effects on individuals' brains, as they stimulate competitive behavior, where a person displays only what benefits them to show others that their life is "perfect."

A "perfect" social network would be a platform that encourages communication and dialogue, resembling an extension or evolution of letters; fostering good relationships between individuals; respecting differing opinions, and most importantly, not encouraging people to treat themselves as "products" for sale on a store shelf.

Only then would we have social harmony and be able to evolve more quickly as human beings.

Personally, I view Reddit as the best structure possible, with upvotes and downvotes, subreddits that you join that are by topic and the idea that trolls get undeniably downvoted and moved towards the bottom of the comment section so I can simply view the 'better stuff'.

However, there are a few downsides to this and my perfect social media platform would pretty much work upon the current structure.

Now, imagining I have the same userbase size as a large-scale social media company, I'd personally focus on 3 points

Originality

I personally just hate logging onto Instagram or Youtube and seeing the same cookie cutter 'trend' be pumped out by the millions for a few likes. The ideal social media site for me is seeing constantly new content, with the occasional repeat being okay.

Fact/authenticity & Removal of Bias (Political)

When you go to view your social media, I'm sure that the last thing you want to see, unless you're actively seeking it out, is misinformation or heavily biased content that's almost false. There's a fine line between 'sh*tposting' and deliberate misinformation and most of the time, it's the latter. Removal of misinformation and twisted news material would be wonderful

Rewards/Loyalty

Okay, I'll be honest, I just thought about how good JustAbout is with its rewards program, and just imagine that on a larger scale where the community with skill can actually be rewarded. It would be a good time for smaller scale original artists, skills and talent to come and shine through! It would also help with the originality and effort that people put into the site.

As a person who uses instagram more often actually it is more than enough but if you want to be refined, you can do it by means of

Features that are still maintained

  • post photos, videos, reels, and stories

  • like, comment, and share

Features that are added

  • only original posts are allowed

  • copyright is so strict, with the hope that we can see original posts from an account such as hobbies, favorites, and daily life

  • removal of posts by instagram because of pornography and copyright that is so strict

Thank you :)

L

I don't know if my answer will be enough for the reward, but it’s honest.

If I could create a social network, it wouldn’t be too different from the ones that already exist. People could post their photos, videos, live streams, comment, like... But with some differences!

1. People would have better filters to choose what they want to see.

2. I wouldn’t put ads everywhere. If the platform was good, people would naturally contribute.

3. I wouldn’t allow the “disguised” pornography that exists on all social networks. It seems like there’s no more creativity.

Lastly,

I would create tools to help small content creators showcase what they’re capable of, without being completely “crushed” by big content creators in an oversaturated market. A market where talent and quality are no longer the traits that help you grow, but rather clickbait and humorless videos, often with a sexual focus.

No matter How I think about My Personal Perfect Social Media I can't go over the fact that we already have Just About, yes it is still in beta but it contains the ingredients to make a good competitor in the world of social interaction : Communities , positive interactions …

The Mods are active, the staff also working hard every day to make it better …

It still boggles me that I didn't know about it sooner ! looking for the future of JA very carefully !

Rupert's avatar

It’s a fine choice…

Sturmer's avatar

How about… Just About!? A group of experts, segmented topics, a non-toxic environment, and a culture that embraces creativity.

But when it comes to other social networks, I think the ideal platform would have no “share” button. So much suffering today is fueled by fake or false information, which spreads like wildfire and causes chaos, unnecessary stress, and even mental health issues. People get trapped in mindless doomscrolling, absorbing reports or opinions without a chance to fact-check or verify the source. In my opinion, the best social network wouldn’t have a share button or massive audiences that can be quickly manipulated.

MQC's avatar

I have always thought that there could be a social network that allowed people to express themselves through text, images, videos, etc., but that promoted useful content and the intelligent use of that content, so I thought about a social network that only allowed 1 post per day for each member.

My idea is that it would deal mainly with the cultural field.

You can participate in different groups/conversations, but each user can only make 1 post per day in 1 of those groups/conversations. I think that this could push the user to think much more about what they want to share, to be creative, and to be more responsible for each participation.

But it would be a social network that, while obviously accepting debate, would seek more the sharing of ideas and information than the "playful" transmission of "semi-random" messages.

From all the social platforms out there JA is the closest to what I would like a social platform to be. There are a few things which I would like to see on my ideal social platform:

Verification and accountability:

People need to be held accountable for what they post and how they behave, just like you are in real life on the street. So many people create fake accounts and then go throw insults at other people or spread misinformation to the point that it can be harmful. This shouldn't be allowed. Even if you choose to display a nickname for safety of your personal information or you choose to post under a brand and not as a person, if you do something unacceptable the authorities need a way to verify who you are and held you accountable for your actions. I know the police technically has the tools for it like track down via IP address and such, but often that leads nowhere. We have rules and laws in real life and breaking them comes with real punishment to the person, we need the same at online spaces too, since it became such an integrated part of our lives.

Notifications:

The ability to completely customise what notifications you want to receive and when. I switch off the internet on my phone when I sleep, because that's the only way to stop notifications and such, but then I wake up to my partner's pings he gets from Ebay when he sells something. Surely he's not going to deal with that in the middle of the night... Let us set what type of notification we want to receive and when. So for example you can set what is an emergency notification for you, that can come through any time, work notifications come only in work time, and social notifications only come when you are free for socialising.

Adds:

I still don't understand how are these not tailored more accurately after all the search data companies have on us. All I should be seeing as adds is concert tickets and Square Enix merchandise... yet I see everything else, why? Also it has to be clear what is an add. It should not be incorporated into the main feed, it should pop up somewhere on the side or let just be a link separating two posts in the main feed but not that hell which we get on FB that I don't even see posts from my friends anymore, only posts from pages FB thinks I should be interested in. I'm not interested in seeing page recommendations, I want to see posts from the people I actually follow.

Block and filters:

This has to get better as well. Ideally on a social platform you want to socialise with likeminded people and not see topics which are triggering for you. I like the idea someone mentioned in another submission to select topics you don't want to see when you register, just like how you select the topics you are interested in. If you block someone you should have the choice if you just don't want to interact with them and see things from them or if you don't want them to interact with you and see your posts.

One social network:

Ideally there should be only one, just like phones used to be. People had a landline, then some people started to have mobile phones, now still some people have one or the other, some have both, but still if you have any kind of phone you can reach someone who has any kind of phone. An ideal social network would be the same. Why do I have to be on multiple platforms to keep in touch with all my friends? Some have FB, some prefer WhatsApp or Viber, then for professional things it's LinkedIn but you can't be on there as your brand... An ideal social network would be where you can find everyone, everyone can engage with activities and topics they want to and see the social or professional elements of the platform to their liking. Kind of how we have different communities here. We see what communities are out there, and we can chose which one to interact with, and it would only take joining a community to interact with people in it, don't have to go a completely different site and register again if I wanted to talk to folks playing EVE.

I stopped using social media years ago, recently im using some of them because they are a requirement for some bounties here in JustAbout, if not i wouldn't use 'em.

Don't want to sound like the cliché guy, but here in JustAbout i found the concept of what a Social Media should be.

Perfect social media platforms will probably be ever-changing but also constant with the right feeds and information tailored to the user.

But also differs enough so it doesn't become an echo-chamber of the same (some-times false) beliefs so it can challenge the greater world view and be equally representative. It is a safe space but also allows people to express themselves freely without judgement or negativity of this expression.

It'll have image, video, music, and live content. And yep, I'll even allow AI generated content as it is an expression of creativity for those that may not have the talent or time to develop it.

Dydo's avatar

In my opinion, the perfect social media platform would integrate our virtual and real life. The thing with the existent platforms is that they create a separate world for us, even though filled with real life experiences.

Something that could indeed mix with reality would surpass this. Locket is a good example of what I'm talking about, you're there living your routine and send a photo to someone you like, just because. Without notification's premise, this comes like an unexpected social interation. My perfect social media platform would expand this, and be able to let you interact with people with full attention and presence, and when you stop you will only interact again if you want to. No scrolling feeds, no dm, no 15s videos, just genuine interactions.

I don't know how to do it, or how it would be for sure, but no more notifications, please. While I'm writting this, I've already received 13 notifications. I didn't died for not replying or even looking what they are about. And if I never reply/look, I'm not gonna die or something, but I need to keep them on because of social arrangements, even if it's something important, I'm sure someone is going to call me. Thats real life, we don't keep ourselves interacting with people ALL the time, why do we need to do this on our phones?

My idea of a perfect social media platform is somthing actually tailored to me an my intersts.

You start off as with most, imputting relevent information (with the ability to hide what you wish) and selecting your intersts. However you can also select uninterests, things you do not want to see at all so you can really create your own space.

This selection would generate the adds most likley to interst you so no need to lurk in the background see what other sites you go on or google.

People can create groups based on interests. These would be divided up in to custom categories so you can browes your intersts individually, as a group or all to gether on the main news feed.

Of course you can add friends and family to see what they are up to. They also are put in to a "friends and family" catagory.

Basically, I would like a cross between Facebook and JA.

THE PERFECT SOCIAL NET

Throughout the long history of the Internet, many social networks have emerged, and we remember MySpace, Hi5, and of course, Facebook, and also Google's attempt with its famous Google+

but in these times it would seem that the resource of a social network is half exhausted, however, I can think of some ideas with which social networks could be created that are even revolutionary, and I see that I'm going to focus in this case on three points, which I will mention below.

  • FIRST - A SOCIAL NET THAT WORRY ABOUT YOUR SLEEP TIME AND RECOVER

First, there should be a social network or an internet system that facilitates sleep and rest. What does that mean, a social network? Let's give it a name, let's call it SÚPER NET

It should be deactivated at 12 midnight in the geographic region where it is located and reactivated again, let's say around 7 in the morning, allowing the person to go to sleep without being distracted by things on social networks.

  • SECOND - THAT DISCONNECT THE INTERACTIONS IN EATING TIME

Secondly, it would also be good if the page took a moment to pause so that the person could have breakfast, lunch and dinner, by suspending all interactions and putting on a set of classical music, soft Celtic music or relaxing music

Let in the Eating time really relaxing without extra distractions over activities or somebody interrupting when you are trying to eat

Very important while the person is sleeping on a work break or taking a nap, they are not interrupted by any notification or anything like that.

  • THIRD - A SOCIAL NET THAT PROMOTE AND ENCOURAGES THE TALENT

And thirdly, and this time getting into what the social network should do, this network should have a points system.

Therefore, through stars, coins or something like that, people are given points for having talents such as dancing, playing instruments, singing, acting, writing, painting, sculpture and many other things.

There should be a social network where the person publicly demonstrates their talent, whatever it may be, and it is appreciated and scored by all the people who see that social network, among other things, in my opinion.

Let’s participate 💪🏼

F

I imagine a perfect social media platfrom is that platfrom have :

  • Must verification face (to know they are fake or not)

  • Privacy secure

  • Photo that cannot be stolen

  • No limit of friendship

F

Imagining a “perfect” social media platform means integrating features that overcome current challenges and promote authentic, healthy, and constructive interactions. Here’s how I would see it:

1. User Experience :

Ethical Personalization : Users can configure the level of personalization, choosing what to see based on their interests, without an intrusive algorithm manipulating the feed to maximize attention.

Clean Interface : No invasive ads, intuitive design and no unnecessary distractions.

Minimalist Mode : An option to only view essential content, reducing digital noise.

2. Content and Communities :

Quality over Quantity : Mechanisms to promote valuable content, such as collaborative review or quality assurance signals.

Thematic Communities : Spaces dedicated to specific interests, transparently moderated by knowledgeable users.

Access to Diversified Content : Actively promoting diverse perspectives to stimulate balanced dialogues.

3. Moderation and Security :

Hybrid Moderation : Combines AI with trained human moderators to ensure fairer decisions.

Transparency : Every moderation intervention is documented and visible to the users involved.

Abuse Prevention : Tools to detect and prevent harassment or toxic behavior without inhibiting freedom of expression.

4. Privacy and Data :

Total Control : Users decide how and what data to share, with clear and unambiguous options.

No Data Monetization : The platform is financed through alternative models, such as subscriptions or donations.

End-to-End Encryption : For all private communications.

5. Interactions and Gamification :

Positive Incentives : Recognition system that rewards constructive contributions and collaborative behaviors.

Zero Like Dependence : Replacing "likes" with more meaningful feedback, such as text ratings or specific badges.

Natural Rhythms : Promotion of "offline time" with limited notifications and content accessible asynchronously.

6. Accessibility and Inclusivity :

Inclusive Design : Full accessibility for people with disabilities, integrated multilingualism and automatic translation tools.

Equity Policies : Support for minorities and cultural inclusion in governance decisions.

7. Governance and Decentralization :

Open Source Platform : Transparent code to ensure trust and collaboration.

Democratic Management : Users participate in important decisions through voting.

Decentralized Structure : Data is distributed and controlled by users themselves, reducing the risk of monopolies.

8. Monetization and Sustainability :

Fair Subscription Models : Accessible payment options with discounts for students or users in developing countries.

Ethical Marketplace : Spaces for content creators with transparent and fair commissions.

Support for Social Initiatives : A part of the profits is reinvested in social impact projects.
