Anita Sarkeesian has announced that Feminist Frequency will be shut down in 2024, 15 years after it was initially launched. She cites exhaustion and burnout as the main reasons why.
Frankly I'm impressed that FF lasted that long and had such an impact. It was really just basic feminist theory applied to video games, so for it to rise above the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the Internet babies was quite a feat. Maybe it succeeded because of rather than in spite of them, I don't think we could ever say for sure.
Of course it was never perfect but to become a non-profit org, to go this long and launch a podcast series, the Games and Online Harrassment Hotline and all the other bits and pieces over the years is an achievement that I hope Sarkeesian and everyone who worked on FF is proud of.
