It's kind of impossible for me not to think that Microsoft paid way too much for ABK and it feels a little bit early to start saying that PlayStation need something as big without seeing how well it pays off. PlayStation have great exclusives, which is a major thing that Xbox has been lacking and it's felt like a lot of their recent acquisitions have been about of desperation to get the good exclusives they need. It's not like Sony haven't been making acquisitions either.

There's not really anyone I want Sony to buy really because I like it when these studios can stay independent!

That's totally fair. It is an absolutely insane amount of money, and I wonder how much it was (partly) out of fear over the decline of their golden franchise - Halo.

Buying CoD, Overwatch, Diablo, WoW seems like it would allow them to keep a strong footing in major online multiplayer and esports titles if Halo were to disappear. (I'm glad Halo seems to be in a better place nowadays).

I do tend to agree that independent is better, but then again I'm a sucker for having all of my favourite games on one handy platform like Game Pass.

I just hope these wild acquisitions don't end up with another Lionhead Studios situation...I'm still salty we won't be getting Black & White on VR!

If we are talking about big names, then I agree Square Enix would be the obvious and most value for money option. What would such an acquisition mean though? Would games from that studio be Play Station only then? I'm more found of the idea of co-operation and making games cross-platform. With how high console prices are, many people can't afford to have both a PS and Xbox and a gaming PC. Square Enix started a co-operation with Microsoft/Xbox with bringing FFXIV to Xbox, and I suspect the new cloud Data Center they will trial for FFXIV is also a result of this opening towards them (planning to write some about the upcoming public tests just waiting for more info on it :)

I'm all for co-operation, and would hope the platform owners would also be happy to share.

If anything I'd love to see PlayStation double down on their film and TV rather than a new game studio acquisition!

Would have loved Arkane studios but that not going to happen. Would love Klei entertainment (Don't Stave, Mark of the Ninja and Oxygen not included). Also Disney interactive I know there shutdown but played a lot of Disney game growing up. Imagine games like set in an open world like Darkwing Duck or Gargoyles. Sports games set in The Mighty Ducks or Remember the Titans. Finally insomniac being bought for 229 million was a steal.

They've got some pretty solid titles between them, but Arkane looks pretty locked in!

It's a bit of a wildcard, but I'd always wondered if Sega wasn't going to get snapped up. Nintendo was my bet years ago, but maybe PlayStation are a better fit.

Crash and Sonic teamup? Both animal mascots with spin-based abilities fighting maniacal scientists? Sounds good to me! 😆

Love the idea of Crash and Soinc team up :). With the rise of popularity in Yakuza and Persona kinda wish Sony bought them instead of Nintendo.

I think WB games could be an under ratted shout... but yeah obs the usual suspects like Square, but I also think some Konami Ip's could be winners given some Sony Studios magic!

Actually WB Games would be a great call!

They've got some great IPs locked in (Batman Arkham, Injustice, Lego, Mortal Kombat, LoTR), and in the last 2 years their share price went from nearly $60 to $10.

Even if PlayStation didn't have the cash to buy up WB Games, they could see if they'd sell of some of their studios to give WB Games a bit of a cash boost.
