My favourite recent couch coop experience was Vampire Survivors. It's not always chill; things became a little heated when I played with my brother and his wife. But not as heated as when we all played Overcooked together. So I'd say if you've played that and come out the other end, you're all good for some VS.

Absolutely, VS is brill in co-op. God I need to play some VS again.

Is it good to play together? Can't picture it, but do love VS

Oh what, there's a co-op mode?!?!

There sure is. They only released it a few months back.

It's not the first game that comes to mind when you think of something chill, but I would suggest Baldur's Gate 3. Because the combat is turn-based and there is no shame in reloading saves, you can take it completely at your own pace, even if the world itself can be quite intense. The D&D stuff can seem daunting at first but it's pretty easy to pick up once you get through the intro - my gf isn't a huge gamer either, she's got a Switch and has played lots of Pokemon/Sims etc, but she loves BG3.

I've been meaning to play BG3 tbf.

How would you recommend playing it in tandem/together?

My husband and I play it together but we are in separate rooms on our computers. If you both have it on laptops, it could work?

It's got local co-op, so I stuck my PC in the living room and hooked it up to the telly, with two long cables for Xbox controllers plugged in. It's local co-op on console too though, so that also works in the usual manner.

You can't go wrong with a bit of Stardew!

I absolutely came here to suggest Stardew Valley. I also recently discovered Moonlighter for those who enjoy Stardew vibes.

Love Cat Quest 2 fun light rpg with a load of cat puns. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCP-DWXK2qE

Boomer's avatar

Ha love it! but do we need to have played the first one for all the cat lore?

Seán 's avatar

Not really. Nice for a bit of context of the world but a fun standalone. Sadly no co-op in the first game tho.

Me and my girlfriend have been enjoying Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime recently. It's kind of similar to Overcooked in a way, albeit less stressful - you control a spaceship and need to man the guns, shields and thrusters separately, as you explore an asteroid field defending yourselves from aliens and whatnot.

Also Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge are great fun if you're into side-scrolling brawlers.

Love that Overcooked is proving to be a universal relationship tester and its not just me screaming "GET ME THE LETTUCE!!!" at my husband

My partner and I also picked up Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime the other day!

No Man's Sky is definitely chill. Explore the galaxy together, build bases together, fight pirates and sentinels together, fly around on giant beetles together, etc.
