Sorry for the block of text everyone, still getting used to the UI 😅

I disagree JA is about community, it's about discussion, posts, and weighing in, it's not supposed to be a "full-time" thing, personally I am here a lot because I work from home and very rarely have to leave the house unless it's on school runs or shopping, some times I have to go to sites for work, but other than that, I'm at home.

JA is about discussion and creativity, So, each section has its own bounties, and essentially everyone can take part in every section with bounties, they want a story, you don't do stories? Learn, read, study, and submit an entry.

If it's a discussion you don't know much about, then go look it up, read a few pages of information, and get involved.

Essentially the bounties are community competitions. As for meet-ups, this community is much too new for this, give it some time for people to get to know each other, etc.

Hope this helps, this is by no means a direct attack or fanboi defense, I think you are just not so clear as to what JA is at this point. It will grow, it takes time, if you rush things, they fail.

I'm quite obsessed with it, it's like a game in itself.

I'd love to hear more of your thoughts on this.

Not in a tell me we're awesome kind of way, but this is an idea I'm quite interested in!

I don't really know, I guess its the gamification of number go up, "winning" something and the dopamine hit of notifications, ooo someones replied etc.

I kind of withdrew from all social media a few years ago as had enough of it all (I only signed back up to take part in the image and video bounties). So this is my go to place for community and discussion right now. I like the non toxic vibe. I'm all for people being negative and saying what they think about things but it all got a bit too much everywhere else. Everything just seems to end up about politics, ideologies and arguments with people getting angry, when its supposed to be about games, tech etc.

Bit OT but to clarify, Prime example is when I signed back up for twitter/X following zero accounts and haven't clicked on anything yet. The content it was pushing to me as a new user... instantly having extreme views pushed to me about controversial subjects, presumably because they are the ones people engage with the most on there.

That's fair. Dealing with that sounds tiring when all you want is to chat about things you enjoy! I'm glad we're able to share that together here 🙂

I could be wrong but I believe the business model is that in the case of games, publishers back a community and provide the funds for it's ongoing bounties, organic rewards etc. Justabout makes money in the long run (hopefully! I want to see it succeed) by taking a % cut for the running costs and a fair profit margin. Correct me if I'm wrong staff.

The more generic spaces are probably funded entirely by JustAbout to encourage general community and participation, so people in each community come together in a more wider shared space so to speak rather than silod into one particular game.

So to get to the point, while they often ask for and welcome suggestions for new communities, it needs the publisher/developer to get on board and fund it as far as I understand. Hopefully they will see the success demonstrated of the 2 there are at the moment and more will get onboard.

We can all play our part to help that happen by taking part and making a success of the ones there are at the moment.

That’s an accurate summary of the biz model, yep!

We do also plan to bring in sponsors for the broader spaces over time too (or just sponsored bounties). But there’ll definitely be a larger pool of rewards/bounties for the communities that are supported directly by the games company or brand involved. We’ve got quite a lot of ongoing discussions on that front so there should be more of these soon…

I'd love to eventually see communities for some really small games like Unpacking. I love to see what those really dedicated fans can find (and imagine) from such a relatively small world. Some of the challenges the community sets for one another, like speed runs or specific gameplay modes are so creative. And, when they merge with the developer's own sensibilities, it's super satisfying too:https://unpacking.fandom.com/wiki/Dark_Star

Away from games, I'd love a safe little corner of the net to fully nerd out about shows like Taskmaster and Steven Universe, or even musicians like David Bowie. Those strange, semi-curated worlds with their own lore and interplay between the fans and the content. Was Joe Wilkinson's toe really on the red green? Is Steven immortal? Was the Thin White Duke also button-eyes in the Black Star era? I could discuss this stuff for years! But I'd be so hesitant to do it on other platforms where the toxicity seems to seep in to a lot of those passionate discussions...

Hi Roo, you're in the right place at the right time! We launched new Spaces for Music and Film & TV just last week!

Bowie, Taskmaster, and Steven Universe would be right at home in these Spaces 😁

I agree about how a JA community makes the game better. I'm currently building a gigantic tower in Nightingale to enter the Platform32 tower bounty. I don't really get on with these openworld survival crafting games as I like some direction rather than be creative and do what you want. Nightingale does have more direction than your usual game in this genre but on top, things like the tower bounty on here give me a reason to mess about , be creative and have fun in the game, giving objectives to complete.

I'm not really fussed if I don't win anything in the bounty, it's more about taking part and doing a challenge shared with other players in the community, then comparing the results. Similar to what you say about how Palworld gameplay would be enhanced by having a community with bounty challenges on here.

This is what sparked my thought. Im actually going to get Nightingale because of the P32 streams,. I love games like that so am really looking forward to playing.

Boomer's avatar

Hi Paul, I'm so happy you're enjoying the platform🙂

I really love this question! I'll not weigh in with my own suggestions, but it'll be great to hear what games we all have in common.

Paul's avatar

I am, cant wait to see whats next for Just About!
