When I was a kid, my favorite way to modify games was using a trainer. It allowed me to set my INT to 1 in Fallout and Fallout 2, unlocking a hidden game mode, and to hack Max Payne's slow-motion bar to make it infinite. It was a blast!

I remember that too 😃 man when fallout 1 first came out it was like a whole new world. That feeling of excitement when you discover a game that challenges everything you ever believed was possible as a kid 🤯

I loved my gameshark for the gameboy, was fun using it for pokemon red, and link's awakening!

I always wanted a GameShark but never got one haha.

My fav was Red Alert "Concrete Mammoths" - We used to do this to troll people, essentially the Mammoth tank became hard as "concrete" and was unkillable, Westwood couldn't stop it for months, we had so much fun being that person xD

Haha when I played Gears of War online all the time I would do the crab walk glitch, then when people in the lobby asked what the heck was going on, I’d give them the weirs instructions on how to do it.

down up left left A right down - DULLARD

I remember this from Mortal Kombat (2, I think) from the late 80s / early 90s. I was already a keyboard user at that point and didn't have my own console so was actually never quite coordinated enough to get the code to work in time...

LMAO I never put together that the code spelled “dullard” haha

There's a couple of obscure ones I'll always remember.

One from an N64 game called Vigilante8 (BANGER of a game by the way), Down Down, Up Up, Down Down. Not really a cheat per se, but it was more a secret firing mode that nobody would know unless you frequently read magazines. Which I read a lot of..

It basically combined 4 mortars into one shot that left a huge crater in the ground, it was really fun to use in multiplayer as it'd really piss people off. There was some different ones too but I don't remember them all.

The other one was for Lylat Wars (Starfox in the US), where you'd rotate your joystick a certain number of times and you'd get to see the title screen character's face track movement. Not really a cheat but more of a quirky easter egg.

That N64 code sounds like how you’d do special attacks in Twisted Metal 3. In the heat of the moment they almost werent even worth trying to hammer out haha.

Didn't have that game. But these ones were actually super helpful and could mean the difference between finishing a mission or not. Sometimes they sent enemies flying and it was pretty funny to watch.

The SIms - rosebud or motherlode just to get rich really quickly Fallout 3 and New Vegas - command prompt tgm, for godmode. Just so I can live out a Fist of the North Star fantasies of just destroying everything Crazy Taxi - playing as the rickshaw. Completely an aesthetic thing but it is always awesome to bust it out in an arcade bar and have your friends be completely shocked as to how you're playing in a rickshaw

Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes - hidden characters Roll, Gold Warmachine, Red Venom, Shadow Lady/ Dark Chun Li. What is awesome about this is again it is a certain way you navigate the character select screen but if you do it correctly your cursor will actually exit the character select and onto a hidden area to get onto your selected character
