It depends on how expensive the game is to begin with and how much I want to play the game for me.

90% of the time on discount - mostly many years after it has been released and the hype has died down and review bombing etc. has settled to truly judge what the value of the game is. If it's a developer that I really like or a series then I'll splash out for the collector's/ ultimate edition. Though the last time I did that was for No More Heroes 3 for PS4 and I still think the collector's edition/ day One edition is still available on discount

Unless I am really looking forward to a game I usually wait until it lowers in price. This doesn't always work of course, dispite my better judgement I got Cyberpunk on release for ps4 (I have now upgraded and its good).

I think the only games I buy full price are Resident Evil games. I’m always grubbin’ for codes on everything else haha

Final Fantasy full price, pre-order, collectors edition and all that.

Other games it depends how much it costs, do I have time to play it right on release or can it wait until it goes on sale.

I like your thinking Final Fantasy all the way

MargotCandy's avatar

I generally buy games on discount. Mostly because I’m too out of the loop to know what’s new. The only two games we bought full price recently were Zelda tears of the kingdom and horizon forbidden west.

I often get second hand games too rather than brand new.

It really depends on when I see the game being released. Almost all I will get at full price as they are released but I also have a long wish list on Steam/XBox/PS5 stores so might pick up games as they go on sale.

Because there are money to buy games full price? Unthinkable... truly unthinkable...

But for now, thats may point on if i want to have it now, i pay what they ask. I may look up a key site just in case I can get 20 Bucks off.

I always compare it with other costs of activities.

70 Bucks for a game which I dumped 24 Hours in the first Weekend. $$$ 2,92 Bucks per Hour

But, I also paid for my PC and the energy and and and. Nice, if you are hooked, make your own excel document which covers all the above costs.

Makster's avatar

that's some girl math right here. I pay $X and used it two times that means I really paid $X/2 i.e. it gets cheaper every time I use it

Kane Carnifex's avatar

Please enlight me whats wrong with my math? You can´t eat a burger twice... You can play a game twice... If you want to do an activity in outside world which cost entrance, you pay this every day.

Need context to improve life to S-Tier god level!!!!

What do you think i do with by 8,5k Grand Bike? I divide it by the KM i have used it.

First trip was super expensive... like 170 Bucks per KM.... Next day i already was down to 85 Bucks...

I do this with my Shoes aswell to caluclate how much i need to lay back.

Shoes cost 100 Bucks and hold for 2 Years.. in the meantime you either have it in the backpocket or you save 0,14 Cent per day or 4,2 per month. So you will always have enough money to rebuy if needed. You can do this on paper or actuall save money :P

I love my math <3 we called in Germany "Milchmädchen Rechnung" or "über den Daumen".

Makster's avatar

So girl math doesn't work on two sets of items: consumables and experiences Consumables: food, drink, gas/petrol Experiences: go-karting, paintball, sky diving, holiday*

It is an argument I have irregularly with my partner as she thinks girl math can be used for everything.

I'd say games can be replayed so each time it is played you halve the cost each time. For shoes and bike it's how many times it's used.

But essentially girl math is essentially just an excuse for impulse buying...

Ah, jeah makes sense. I would like to add "Fun i have compared to money i needed to spend"

Paintball is 5 Hours for X Gaming is X Hours for 70 bucks.

Sturmer's avatar

As a content creator, most of the time I get them for free. If for personal use, then discounts.

MURRRAAAAY's avatar

aww that’s amazing, I didn’t know you were a content creator!?

Sturmer's avatar

Does a journalist count as a content creator?

Kane Carnifex's avatar

Not everbody can have free games :)

From 2018 I went full digital but I've backtracked since and usually only buy digital when a sale is on.

Honestly most of my gaming is done through Xbox Game Pass. My partner is a game collector, mostly Xbox, so if I need something to play that's not on Game Pass I normally raid his collection.

It's very rare that I go out of my way to get games, and I certainly can't afford new ones.

Thomas's avatar

For new games, I generally look to places like ShopTo or Hit to see if I can find it for a little cheaper, but beyond that I generally don't mind paying full price for a game I'm excited to play. I bought games like Dragon's Dogma 2 and Armored Core VI at full price because I didn't want to wait. That said, when Sony publish a game and put the price at £70, that's when I struggle. I was tempted to buy Stellar Blade but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money on it.
